Year 4

Hello from 4M

The last few weeks has been a fantastic period of discovery and learning for 4M, filled with exciting mathematical explorations and creative projects. This Term, the students dived into the colourful world of graphic novels. They explored the unique format of these visual stories, learning how illustrations and text come together to tell engaging narratives. Each student had the chance to create their own graphic novel pages, applying their newfound skills to craft exciting stories and vibrant illustrations. The result? A collection of imaginative and original graphic novel pages that showcase their creativity and understanding of this dynamic genre.

4M also delved into the fascinating world of symmetry this term. The students learned how symmetry is all around us, from nature to architecture. They engaged in hands-on activities to complete symmetrical pictures, honing their skills in identifying lines of symmetry and understanding how balanced designs are formed. Their completed artworks not only showcased their understanding of symmetry but also their creativity, resulting in some truly impressive pieces.

In addition to symmetry, 4M explored geometric transformations including translations, rotations, and reflections. Through interactive lessons and practical exercises, students learned how shapes can be moved, rotated, and flipped in space while maintaining their properties. They enjoyed applying these concepts to create and manipulate patterns, deepening their understanding of geometric transformations and their real-world applications.

Overall, Term 3 has been a showcase of 4M’s enthusiasm and hard work. I am thrilled with their progress and look forward to more exciting learning adventures in the upcoming term!
