Exciting News!
It is with great pleasure to announce that in the coming weeks, we will be starting our Spanish program with Señor Esteban!
Students have been furthering their fitness and fun through a variety of activities in PE.
Grades F - 2 have continued to extend their understanding of the game of Jedi, focusing on good sportsmanship and honesty when following the rules of the game. Students are also encouraged to vote on warm-up games, and the particular favourite at the moment is "Run If".
Grades 3 - 6 have been involved working on their teamwork and cooperation by playing a game of Cones Connect Four. It has been very exciting to watch how well teams work to navigate the game, using communication and leadership skills to secure a win. They have also been introduced to the game of Touch Rugby, a modified version of rugby that focuses on passing skills.
In the coming weeks we will be focusing on our soccer skills, as the BPS World Cup approaches, and teachers are looking for star players to represent their team. As the coach of last year's winning team, Miss Sheppard is particularly excited to defend her championship win.
In STEM, students are exploring the fascinating world of Earth and Space Science.
Foundation - Grade 1/2
Our F-2 students have been learning about how rockets work. They learnt about the different parts of a rocket and how, in 1969, three astronauts made it to the moon. We then went outside to launch bottle rockets to demonstrate Newton's Third Law of Motion by using a bottle, air, water and a pump to fire a bottle into the sky!
Grade 3/4
This week, our Grade 3/4 students have begun their big project on rocket building. Thank you to the parents who provided an empty plastic bottle, this has been a great help!
Grade 5/6
Our Grade 5/6s have begun their big project on using 3D rendering software to design and build a model of a Mars colony. The students have demonstrated this newly acquired skill and will begin the printing process by next week! Students had to consider different variables such as the lower gravity, the isolation and the basic human needs for survival on the red planet!
Throughout the whole school during the last fortnight, we have been working on our competition entries to Mainfreight. Each year we are involved in this competition, where some of our student's work will be chosen for a calendar. The theme is Books we like to read. The students have worked very hard on their entries. We look forward to submitting our wonderful artworks and seeing if some of our students are chosen for the calendar.
I have a request to make to parents- if you have any spare small cardboard boxes, buttons, trinkets or wool that you are not using, would you please donate them to the Art room for our upcoming projects.
