In reading students have begun to focus on poetry! We have started the process of understanding the different characteristics of poetry. We have looked at Limericks, Haikus, and couplets to name a few. Once students have an understanding of the poems, we hope to begin the process of making zines, where students can show their full creativity.

We’ve just wrapped up another explanation report on either ‘How Honey is Made’ or ‘The Metamorphosis of Frogs,’ and now the students are diving into a topic of their choice! They’re currently in the planning phase, eagerly researching their chosen subjects. Ask your child about their topic—they should be able to explain the stages of their cycle or the steps of their sequential report with confidence! Topics include; How a combustion engine works, How Earthquakes happen, How the Respiratory system works, The process of Recycling and many more.

Over the last few weeks the Grade 5/6 students have been exploring decimals and percentages. We have worked in different groups, compared to our home groups which has been helpful for targeting students' learning needs. We have learnt about what the decimal point means as well as how to convert decimals into fractions and percentages.

This week the Grade 5 students completed a guided meditation session. We discussed breathing, posture and mindfulness. Students began the session with a degree of reluctance and at first they did not appear to take it seriously. After completing one mediation session, this had changed. They were able to talk about how much calmer they felt, how their bodies felt more relaxed and their minds were more focused. The students then requested to complete another session and showed high levels of focus and took the activity much more seriously. During reflection, many of them shared times in their life when they could use meditation or similar activities to relax themselves (e.g. reading, listening to music, drawing). As shown, it was particularly successful with Mrs El Chami.

GRADUATION DANCING HAS BEGUN!!
Over the last two weeks the Grade 6 students have begun learning a new dance for their graduation. We have been practising on Wednesday afternoons. The Grade 6’s have been enthusiastic, sharing their ideas and listening to the ideas of others. We can’t wait to show off our amazing dance routine at Graduation!

EXCURSION TO TOWN PARK
All the Grade 5/6 students went to visit Hume Secondary School (Town Park Campus) to watch a musical performance of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. The music, lighting and scenery were all fantastic. It was exciting to see a former BPS student in the production, well done Ziad! Our students showed fantastic audience behaviour and made their teachers very proud.
