The 1/2s have been examining text features of fiction and non-fiction texts. We have learnt that fiction texts tell us stories and have features such as illustrations. Non-fiction texts tell us information and have many features, such as diagrams, labels, photographs, contents page and glossary. In Writing we have become authors and have started making our own stories. We are learning that our stories must contain a character, setting, problem and solution. We are having lots of fun coming up with different problems to solve!
In Numeracy we have been learning to tell the time. We know that when the minute (long) hand is on the 12 that means it is o'clock, and when it is on the 6 that means half past. The hour (short) hand tells us the number that is the hour. We are beginning to learn about quarter past and quarter to as well! At home you can practise finding clocks in your house and telling the time. I wonder if you can find some that are digital and some that are analogue?
In SEL and Inquiry we have been continuing to learn about our emotions and how to help ourselves when we feel overwhelmed, stressed or angry. We have been practising doing mindful activities that help us stay calm, such as colouring, and also meditation mindfulness using Smiling Minds on YouTube. We have also been practising different breathing strategies, such as rainbow breathing and candle/flower breathing. What strategies do you use at home to stay calm? How do you relax before you go to bed?
