We hope everyone is still buzzing with excitement after our dumpling-making activity last week! What an amazing experience! It was for everyone to get hands-on and learn one of China’s most delicious and cherished traditions.
Making dumplings isn’t just about food, and it's about connecting with the Chinese culture. From rolling out the dough to perfecting the filling, you all embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. Dumplings, or 饺子 (jiǎozi), are a huge part of Chinese New Year celebrations and family gatherings.
We were thrilled to see how much fun our Year 10 Chinese learners had during the workshop.
Well done, dumpling makers, for a fantastic time! Let's keep exploring the Chinese culture together!
In Week 9 of Term 3, all Year 7 German classes visited the German Club at Woolloongabba. The students got to try traditional German food and experience German culture.
They enjoyed a mini Oktoberfest, where they shared German food and took part in fun activities while learning about German history. The visit was a big hit, and many students have been asking for more chances to enjoy German food and activities.
We’re excited about finding more ways to make learning about German culture fun and engaging!
We are thrilled to announce that Lizzie M, a Year 9 student at our school, has been selected for the prestigious Lotus Language Prize Scholarship Program. Elizabeth will embark on a two-week language and cultural immersion program in Shanghai, China, from December 6 to December 21 2024.
Lizzie’s selection is a testament to her dedication and passion for the Chinese language and culture. Her application process was highly competitive, requiring a comprehensive 20-page submission and a handwritten 400-word introduction detailing her motivation. She also excelled in a rigorous interview, competing against students from both state and private schools across Queensland.
This scholarship will provide Lizzie with invaluable experiences, allowing her to enhance her language skills and gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. We are incredibly proud of her achievement and excited to see how this opportunity will contribute to her academic and personal growth.
Congratulations, Lizzie! We eagerly await the stories and insights you’ll bring back from your Shanghai adventure.
From 1 August to 10 August 2024, our school was thrilled to host a wonderful group of Japanese students for an enriching study tour. This week-long program provided an incredible opportunity for cultural exchange, learning, and forging new friendships.
Cultural and Educational Insights
The tour began with engaging English lessons, where students explored intriguing topics such as the differences in food culture and education systems between Australia and Japan. These discussions offered valuable perspectives on how our two cultures intersect and diverge.
Hands-On Learning and Fun Activities
A major highlight of the visit was the wildlife lesson, where students had the chance to learn about Australia’s unique animals, birds, and ecosystems. This interactive session sparked a deeper appreciation for our country’s natural wonders.
In a delightful hands-on activity, students teamed up with their Australian buddies to make pizza from scratch. This fun cooking session not only introduced them to a beloved Australian culinary tradition but also provided an opportunity for cultural exchange through shared experiences.
To honor Multicultural Queensland Month, the students performed a traditional Japanese dance. This vibrant performance was a highlight of the week, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Japan and adding a festive touch to our celebrations. The dance was met with enthusiastic applause and appreciation from everyone in attendance.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing student buddies, whose enthusiasm, friendliness, and dedication made this study tour truly special. Your efforts in guiding our guests and sharing your experiences were invaluable and greatly appreciated.
A special note of thanks goes to Mrs. Hart and Mrs. Benjamin, our dedicated study tour coordinators. Your meticulous planning, organization, and unwavering support ensured the success of this program. Your commitment to creating a memorable experience for both our students and the visiting group did not go unnoticed, and we are deeply grateful for your hard work.
The study tour was more than just an educational trip; it was an opportunity to build cultural bridges and create lasting friendships. We are grateful for everyone who contributed to the success of this program and look forward to hosting more international guests in the future.
