Showcase 2024
Thursday evening was indeed a day to remember in the annual Showcase Performing Arts concert. The PA concert runs during Week 1 in Term 4 and it is to showcase the best work across Technologies and the Arts. This year 11 acts across the Performing Arts have displayed outstanding performances showcasing a wealth of talent. There was a versatile array of talent ranging from Music and Dance.
Nazareth certificate III in VET Music Performance performed their final dress rehearsal preparing for the end of the year VCE VET Music Performance examination on Thursday 17 October.
The showcase concert included works from Nazareth's top Scholarship students, Talent Quest, Guitar and Bass ensemble, Contemporary Band, String ensemble, Year 9 Music Performance and Year 10 Dance.
Masa Basic (Year 8, Mannix 3) put on sparkling rhythmic gymnastics routines that left the audience speechless and to top it all off, winners of the 2024 Talent Quest performed a rendition of Lufey’s song “From the Start”.
Giuliana Artho (Year 8, MacKillop 2) glued the audience on their seats with her warm vocal tone and smooth, yet flawless scatting performance. Our Music 2024-25 Music Captain, Anthony Nguyen (Year 11, McAuley 3), had the whole auditorium, including the backstage crew, spellbound with his piano skills across all styles.
During the night, we had the chance to cheer for two of our Year 8s, Sathila Wennawatta (Year 8, Chisholm 1) and Jamie Brown (Year 8, Chisholm 5) to share with the community and parents in the audience what they had been working on every lunchtime in the Drums room. Both boys started a Rock Band with Sathila on Drums and Jamie playing Guitar. The pair rehearsed The White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army'. The performance was so good that I decided to include them in the Showcase concert.
I take this opportunity to thank all the performers who put on a enjoyable show, and the teachers and parents who supported the students through the year in honing their skills and getting on the stage to perform.
Special mention to all the instrumental teachers, who manage and run the ensembles, for their professionalism and expertise in guiding the students, Ms Vega and Ms Taura for stage managing the Showcase concert and the MCs for the night, Aleksandar Delosevic (Year 8, McCormack 2) and Anthony Nguyen (Year 11, McAuley 3) for hosting the night and for entertaining the audience with jokes. I surely can’t wait to hear better jokes next year.

On 10 and 11 October, Nazareth College held its exciting annual Showcase event which featured the diverse talents that our students possess in Performing Arts, Technology and Visual Arts. This event displayed over two hundred and fifty works including animations, cakes, ceramics, dances, drawings, dresses, folios, furniture, models, monsters, movie posters, paintings, performances, photographs, prints, and video essays.
Opening night, held on Thursday 10 October, was an opportunity for students’ friends, families, teachers and the wider community, including the Fire Department, to view what was on display and to watch the live performances, including dance and music pieces. Students also enjoyed the opportunity, during the school day on Friday 11 October, to visit the event space with their classes and see the works on display. This was well attended across the school.
Well done to all students who had pieces on display. And a massive thank you to the staff involved in setting up and coordinating this event.
