Week 1 and 2 Sport Report
It’s been an action packed first 2 weeks of term with plenty of teams representing Park Ridge at Interschool Sports
On Friday 10 October, our Senior girls basketball team competed against the best schools in Knox at Dandenong Stadium. The girls lost their 3 pool matches however remained positive and showed outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day, with all players contributing at various stages. We finished on a high, defeating Karoo in the 7th place playoff final by 28 points. Well done to the team for making it to Division and thank you to Tori for assisting with transportation and scoring.
Wednesday 15 October saw our Senior Boys Future Stars team, the Park Ridge Rebels, compete at Regional Hoop Time. The boys continued their undefeated run from the previous round, going 6 and 0 for the day and booking a spot at the State Future Stars Championships on Friday 5 December. I was super impressed with the sportsmanship and respect shown by all players. The Rebels become the first Hoop Time team to reach the State Finals since 2022, and just the third team to do so in my 11 years at PRPS. Thanks to Greg for coaching and good luck at State!
Hot Shots Tennis
Last Friday our Boys Hot Shots Tennis team competed at the Knox Division Finals at Eildon Park. We lost our first match 4-8, however won our next 2 matches 10-2 and 11-1. Sadly for the boys that wasn’t enough to earn a spot in the Division final, and we went on to win the 3rd place playoff game 11-1. In primary school tennis, students umpire and score their own matches, and I was so pleased with the sportsmanship and honesty shown by our players.
Week 3 Sport Report – Regional Athletics, Division Softball and Rugby
Week 3 saw a number of exciting Interschool Sports events!
On Thursday was Eastern Metropolitan Regional Athletics Championships at Doncaster Athletics Club. This year, Park Ridge had 7 students qualify across a variety of events. Making it to Regionals is an outstanding achievement and all students should be proud of their efforts. Well done to:
Hannah R – 4th in Discus
Zahid A – 4th in Shot Put
Zane F – 5th in Shot Put
Zach P – 5th in High Jump and 5th in Hurdles
Taryn O – 6th in Hurdles
Sophia S – 6th in Hurdles
Division Softball
On Friday was the Knox Division Softball Championships. Both our boys and girls teams qualified for the event, and both teams had a similar day, losing our first game in a close one against St Simons before going on to win the rest of our matches. In the end, both teams finished 3rd overall. Thank you to Nathan for coaching the boys and Mrs Smith for coaching the girls.
Division Rugby
Friday was also the Knox Division Tag Rugby Gala Day. This was an open event for any Year 6 and selected Year 5 students who wanted to participate and Park Ridge entered the maximum 4 teams into the event. Melbourne Storm development players ran the day and provided some great coaching in their quest to develop the game of Rugby League in Victoria. Students also participated in lunch time activities such as relay races and a dance competition where prizes were given out. There was no scoring on the day, however I’m sure the students were keeping track and am told we won a fair few of our games – not that it matters on a day like this. This day is always a spectacular event, with many students commenting that they didn’t expect it to be as fun as it was.
Well done to all!
