Celebrating Our Reunion Season

School reunions are more than just gatherings—they're a chance to reconnect with an essential part of our past that shaped who we are today. Reunions provide a unique opportunity to relive cherished memories, rekindle friendships, and celebrate the journey we've taken since graduation. Our school friends were there during some of our most formative years, sharing experiences that helped us grow and understand ourselves. By reconnecting, we gain a sense of continuity and support that can be hard to find elsewhere. Friendships nurtured through school often carry an unmatched bond. These connections remind us that we're not alone in our journey—no matter where life has taken us, we have a community that understands and supports us.

The month of October is our 'Reunion Season', with Old Collegians returning to the College to celebrate their 10, 20, 30, and 40-year reunions.

Each Saturday in October, we host alumni for tours of Myrniong, the Boarding House and the Senior School, and it is always a delight to hear the Old Collegians reminisce about their time here as students. There is no doubt that the Senior School tours take longer for the 30 and 40-year groups, who try to reconcile where their old classrooms, Berry Hall and the sports field used to be located. The school has undergone significant changes, and they are in awe of the facilities our current students enjoy and excel in.

The one part of the school that hasn't changed is the Tower courtyard, where Year 11 students now sit during recess and lunch, and where the Laidlaw House locker room is located. I often hear that the smell of Rooms 5 and 6 is the same and brings back specific memories. I know all the hiding places at the back of the oval and in the library that have not changed in 40 years, the shenanigans that occurred in science labs, how good Laidlaw "used" to be, and the excuses for homework not completed.

It is incredible to hear about the bonds that remain from their time at College and about the impact the teachers and their peers had on what they went on to do after school. I believe there is one consistent theme that holds true from 1985 through to today: our students are encouraged to be well-rounded, try new things and aim high. Although we may be located regionally, our alumni go on to achieve amazing things all over the world.

My thanks to Mrs Alana Brown for her organisation of these events.
