STEM Education lands at SHP in Term 4!
With our Term 4 Inquiry Unit underway,
Year 1
This week our Year 1 students had a special guest, Geoff, as part of their STEM Inquiry unit. He came in to show us how to make and use their magnetic marble run. We had a great time working together to create our marble run. There was lots of conversations about how to make the marble go faster how to make the marble go further. It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience that encouraged problem solving and collaboration. Thanks Geoff!
Year 2/3
This week, our Year 2/3 class joined the Year 3/4 students for Mass. It was a truly beautiful celebration, and we were grateful to be part of it together.
During Mass, Father also blessed our class Mary MacKillop cross, which made the occasion even more special.
This year has been full of so many special moments that myself and Lauren feel privileged to be a part of as the classroom teachers. A moment I have been a part of this year has been Lance tying his shoe laces confidently. This is a particularly difficult task to accomplish so I would like to give Lance a shout out and say “Well done, you did it. You can tie your laces with ease and confidence. I am so proud of you’’. Lastly, we have been busy in Maths cutting shapes. This includes making shapes, creating shapes and having some fun with paddle popsticks. Please enjoy the photo’s and have the most wonderful weekend.
Year 3/4
This week the Year 3/4 students went to Mass and whilst we were there, Father Aloysius blessed our new Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop prayer cross. During our recent staff Professional Development Day at the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre, Antoinette kindly bought each class a new prayer cross.
Year 4/5
This week in Year 4/5, students explored statistics and data collection by conducting a classroom survey of questions and answers (options) on a range of topics, from favourite ice cream flavours to the most popular video games. They recorded the responses to practice interpreting and analysing data.
Students also put the finishing touches on their amazing Inquiry Projects about thesolar system, which will be exhibited next week at the Expo!
Year 5/6
During RE, we have been discussing our role as stewards of Creation. In 5/6, as one small component of this unit, we have planted some flowers to enhance our immediate school environment, and we'll all attempt to take care of them. We'll remind ourselves to give them the appropriate amounts of light, shade and water to ensure they thrive and complement the entrance to Sacred Heart School.
