Grade 1 & 2
Term 4
Term 4 is in full swing again with great learning and exciting opportunities happening across the year level. Students have settled back into their routines with enthusiasm and a strong focus on finishing the year on a high note.
This term, our classrooms have been buzzing with curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. From hands-on projects and engaging literacy activities to new challenges in maths, students have continued to show growth and persistence. We’ve also been preparing for upcoming end-of-year events, which we are all eagerly looking forward to.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in making Term 4 a successful and enjoyable one.

In literacy we have continued our weekly grammar, thrice weekly spelling, bi weekly comprehension, storybook lessons and writing lessons. Students are more and more able to put the skills they are learning through our explicit instructions into practice. As we draw closer to the end of the year we have reached our final comprehension strategy - Monitoring. When we read we not only need to be able to read all of the words, we need to be able to monitor what we are reading in order to check for understanding. We do this by stopping and checking, summarising and then reading on. It has been wonderful to see students increasingly be able to draw on all of the comprehension skills they have learned this year to grow their reading.

Over the past 2 weeks we have been learning about fractions. Grade 2's have learned about halves, quarters, eighths and further. They have folder shapes, cut shapes, made fractions of collections and played lots of fractions games ot reinforce their learning.
Students have also been learning about location and direction and practising using prepositions as well as cardinal directions. The grade 2's first learned about following directions and making sure that they carefully read each direction and follow them in order.
They then were able to write their own directions for a friend who had to then follow them in order to find a hidden treat in the grade 2-4 building. They used a map of our building, wrote the directions using as many positional words as they could, tested their directions and then swapped with a classmate who had to follow them in order to find a treat.

One of the most treasured events on our annual calendar is Grandparents' and Special Friends’ Day. This special occasion holds a very important place in our school community, as it allows us to celebrate and acknowledge the grandparents and special people who play such meaningful roles in our students’ lives.
Our students warmly welcomed their grandparents and special friends to join them for a morning of fun, learning, and connection. Our classrooms were filled with laughter and joy as students and their guests took part in a range of activities — from creating crafts and playing games to sharing stories and learning together.
Throughout the morning, our students shared their learning, conducted interviews with their guests, and created artwork expressing their appreciation. The morning concluded with a delightful morning tea, where families and friends came together to reflect on the special morning.

This week in Grade 1, we had a very special visitor — Ivory’s pet goat, Hazel!
The children absolutely loved hearing Ivory’s funny stories about what her little goat gets up to at home. They also learned how to safely hold and care for a goat. Everyone joined in on the fun!
The highlight of Hazel’s visit was when she played in the GaGa Pit with the students and enjoyed her milk from a bottle. The children were amazed at how much milk such a small goat could drink!
It was a delightful and educational experience for everyone, and we’re so grateful to Ivory and her family for sharing Hazel with us.
