Foundation (Prep)

Wear It Pink Day!
Thank you to everyone for supporting 'Wear It Pink Day' for a very worthy cause. Everyone looked fabulous and all money raised will go to the Warrandyte Pink Ladies/McGrath Foundation. The Prep -2 students were invited to perform their song Pure Imagination at the Pink Ladies Breast Cancer Awareness event, which was held at the Warrandyte Sports Club. The children looked the part in their pink outfits and were very brave performing in front of a new audience. Well done Preps and thank you to Mrs Bailey for all the work she did to prepare the performance.
English
Over the past fortnight, we have introduced two new digraphs (two letters that make one sound) 'ng' and 'ay'. Students have brainstormed words that have these sounds. We have practised spelling words with these sounds and used the words to write sentences. At the end of a phonics set, we pause and revise the sounds we have learnt. The set we have just completed included the digraphs 'wh', 'th', 'oo', 'ng' and 'ay'. During revision, progress monitoring occurs to identify students who may need more time to consolidate. Each week students attempt a recount of a familiar event. This is an opportunity for students to put into practise the word and sentence work we do throughout the week.
Maths
Last week the Preps completed a unit on money. During this unit, students were encouraged to sort Australian coins and discuss their name, features and value. They also had the opportunity to use some coins in our class shop and find the appropriate coins to purchase some items.
This week we revised what we have learnt about measurement. The class have revisited measuring capacity and duration of time. We used a variety of containers in the sandpit to compare capacity, made days of the week caterpillars and completed some assessment questions to record our understanding.
Grandparents Day
Thank you to your families for attending the Grandparents/Special Persons Day last week. The invitation was well received and we had a wonderful turn out. The Prep students enjoyed welcoming all of our visitors and had fun making some paper flowers with our special guests.
Prep Afternoon Tea
As a part of our ACPS camp program, our junior students experience a range of fun activities at school. To build confidence and prepare eventually for an external camp experience in years 3 and 4, the Prep to 2 students stayed for afternoon tea (Prep), dinner (Grade 1) and a sleepover at school (Grade 2).
This year's theme was Farmyard Fun! Students enjoyed interacting with animals in our special farm incursion. We made paper bag scarecrows and ate a delicious afternoon tea prepared by our Parents and Friends Association.
Have a great weekend!
