Year 10 explore university life at Macquarie University

Today, some enthusiastic Year 10 students had the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a university student at Macquarie University. The visit offered students a valuable insight into future study pathways, campus life and the wide range of opportunities available after high school.

The day began with a warm welcome from Macquarie University Student Ambassadors, who shared their personal experiences, insights into university study, and the support services available to students. This introduction helped set the tone for an engaging and informative day. Students then took part in academic sessions tailored to their interests. Some attended a Future Skills Workshop led by Associate Professor Prashan Karunaratne, where they explored the changing world of work and the skills needed for future careers. Others toured the Macquarie University Sport & Aquatic Centre and heard from a Sports Scholar about balancing study, sport and university life.

After a break for lunch in the bustling Central Courtyard, students joined a guided campus tour, giving them a first-hand look at teaching spaces, student areas and key facilities across the university. The tour allowed students to ask questions and imagine what studying at university might look like for them.

The day concluded with a Q&A; panel, where Macquarie’s Student Ambassadors answered

questions about entry pathways, course options, workload, university experiences and tips for transitioning from high school to tertiary study.

This campus experience gave our students a meaningful glimpse into university life and helped them begin thinking about their future goals and the many pathways available after the HSC. A big thank you to Macquarie University for hosting such an informative and inspiring day for our Year 10 cohort.

Kellyville High School students shine at VETiS Regional Healthcare Assistance Competition

Three Kellyville High School students, Soana, Jane and Sandra, recently represented the school at the 2025 VET in Schools (VETiS) Regional MiniSkills Competition – Healthcare Assistance, held at The VIC.

This event, run in partnership with the NSW Department of Education and WorldSkills Australia, gives students an opportunity to experience the standards and expectations of a professional skills competition within the healthcare sector.

Throughout the competition, students participated in a series of practical modules aligned to the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance and Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance. These included infection prevention and control, assisting with patient movement, communication in a healthcare setting, and applying medical terminology.

All three students displayed exceptional enthusiasm, professionalism and teamwork, demonstrating the high quality of vocational education and training available at Kellyville High School.

The school congratulates Soana, Jane and Sandra on their achievements and their commitment to developing valuable skills for future careers in the health and community services industry.

Kellyville High School is proud to announce that two of our Year 10 students, Caleb and Jack, have officially commenced School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) with Reece Plumbing, one of Australia’s leading suppliers in the plumbing and bathroom industry.

Through this SBAT pathway, Caleb and Jack will combine their school studies with paid, on-the-job training while working towards a nationally recognised qualification. This hands-on experience will allow them to build practical trade skills, gain workplace confidence and begin their journey into the plumbing industry while completing their HSC.

Reece Plumbing is well regarded for its strong training programs, supportive mentoring and long-term career opportunities for young apprentices. Both students will complete regular shifts at their local Reece store, attend TAFE as part of their training plan, and continue to meet their school commitments.

Kellyville High School congratulates Caleb and Jack on securing these valuable apprenticeship positions. Their commitment, motivation and strong work ethic have already been recognised, and we look forward to supporting them throughout their apprenticeship journey.
