Market Day Thursday 23rd October: All students may wear casual clothes for a gold coin donation and bring up to $20 to spend at the market.

Hello Level 1 Families,

Welcome to Term 4. It'so hard to believe we are in the home stretch! The year is flying by so quickly!

Level 1 students have made an amazing start to the term. We have been very impressed with

their positive attitudes, enthusiasm and behaviours thus far.

We all enjoyed a wonderful trip to Scienceworks on Monday. It was great! The students really outdid themselves with some brilliant behaviour. We were so proud of each and every one of them. We particularly enjoyed the Planetarium and the Lightning Theatre.

Thank you to our parent helpers on the day, Ana, Nicky and Jason.

Please enjoy the photo gallery just below.

Term 4 Reminders:

Homework is recommencing today. Your child should have brought their homework book home today with their new activity sheet. Homework will be due back at school Friday fortnight. Thank you for your support with this.

Market Day is next Thursday. How exciting! Please make sure your child brings their spending money in a named bag/wallet/purse.

Our classroom doors open at 8:50am everyday. This is to allow for students to enter the classroom, put their drink bottle and diary away, and then complete a 'soft start' at their desk.

We kindly remind parents to say goodbye to their children at the classroom door.

1B and 1C change their take home readers every FRIDAY and 1A will change theirs over each WEDNESDAY. Please remember to pack take home books on your allocated day.

Hats should now be worn until the end of the year.

Friday is still our library day, so please remember to bring library books back each Friday so that students can borrow a new book or two.

Literacy:

Our Grade 1 students had an exciting day exploring Scienceworks, where they discovered fascinating exhibits and hands-on activities all about science and technology! Now, they’re putting their writing skills to work by creating recounts of their adventure. Through these stories, the children are practicing how to share their experiences in order—what they saw, did, and enjoyed most. We’re proud of their enthusiasm and creativity as they reflect on their memorable day of learning outside the classroom!

Heart words: This coming fortnight we will be focusing on revising words such as half, water and those and writing these words into sentences.

This week we focussed on the words below:

Maths:

This past fortnight we have been focusing on addition and subtraction strateies. Students have been learning to undeertsand that subtraction is the opposite to addition (inverse operation). So if they know 17+4=21, then they know 21-4=17. Over the next fortnight students will be learning more about multiplication and division and how these are inverse operations also. If we know 5x3=15, then we know 15 divided by 3=5. Students will then look at solving problems using these strategies.

Inquiry:

We are loving learning all about the ancient civilisation of Mesopotamia. Our inquiry lessons have been full of discoveries such as the location of Mesopotamia ('the land between two rivers'), farming life, communities and roles.

In the coming weeks we will learn more about this fascinating subject. Please chat to to your child about what they already have learnt.
