Welcome back to Term 4! Can you believe how quick the year is flying by!?
It was great to have the kids back and hear about the amazing holidays they enjoyed. We have a busy term ahead and it is also a report term which means additional assessments will be taking place. Thank you for your continued support, it makes such a difference to your child’s learning and to our classroom community.
Literacy
In our recent literacy lessons, students have been learning about how 'ed' can make 3 different sounds at the end of a word. The key words to help us with these are; hunted (ed), drilled (d) and jumped (t). We also learnt that it helps to transform words into past tense.
We have had a deep dive into conjunctions like because, as they help us add to our sentences as to why something has happened to be more detailed. For example; The cat jumped because it wanted to get down.

Also... a celebration is needed. We seen such a huge improvement in students accuracy and ability to use 'k or c' with greater sucess at the beginning of words. For example; K takes i & e so the k is used in words like kite, kit, Ken. C takes the other 3, being o, a & u like in the words cub, cold and cat. This is the first year we have explicitly taught this to Prep's at Sandy East and it has been a sucess due to all their efforts.
Heart words
This week we have been learning the heart words 'do'and 'my'. Next week we will learn 'look'.

Information Texts
Students have now completed their learning around information texts as we completed our last animal, being pandas. We loved learning lots of facts about different animals and how non fiction books can be used to help us find different information.
Over the past fortnight, Foundation students have been busy building their number knowledge and confidence! We’ve been practising skip counting and counting on from numbers other than zero, discovering new and exciting number patterns along the way. Students have loved exploring hundreds charts in fresh, creative ways and deepening their understanding of place value, especially focusing on the Tens and Ones columns. Each maths lesson begins with Retrieval Practice, where we revisit past learning to strengthen long-term understanding. Well done on your enthusiasm and persistence, Foundation – keep it up!

In Inquiry this term, students have been delving into the rich histories and cultures of First Nations Australians. We began by exploring the Indigenous Map of Australia and discovering the many diverse groups across the land and the Torres Strait Islands. Students have also learned about significant sacred sites, including Uluru, Birrarung (Yarra River), and Lake Mungo — where the oldest human remains in Australia were found. It has been a fascinating journey of learning, respect, and connection to Country.
