Foundation

Creating a love of learning with Mrs McBride & Miss Jenni

Whilst Mrs McBride has been away ... the students in Foundation have been working hard on all their learning.

In literacy, there has continued to be a big focus on our phonics learning, including learning and practising,

  • sound representations for letters ‘ch’, ‘sh’, ‘ng’.
  • grapheme–phoneme correspondences (GPCs) to read, spell and handwrite the words ‘chat’, ‘such’, ‘mesh’, ‘hang’, 'check;, 'fish', 'rash' and king
  • handwriting lower-case GPCs ‘ch’, ‘sh’, ‘ng’, 'n'. 'g', and 'h' and revise formation of previously taught GPCs in a dictated sentence.
  • to read decodable text to practise GPCs and high-frequency words, apply emerging grammar knowledge, build fluency and make meaning.

We have been working on our word and sentence writing, making connections to our mentor texts Giraffes Can't Dance and Farmer John's Tractor.  Students have completed a number of written pieces to show Mrs McBride and should be very proud of what they have completed.

The students enjoyed their visit with Harrold the Giraffe in the Life Education program. There was a large focus on being a good friend, during this session, and the follow up work has complemented the other learning we have been doing in our integrated studies.

In Numeracy, students have continued their learning on partitioning of numbers and place value, along with practising the other skills they have learnt throughout the year.

The students will have lots of amazing learning to share with Mrs McBride when she returns next week. A huge thankyou to Mrs Harley, Mrs J and Mrs Tiley who have stepped into this class over the 4 weeks. The preps have enjoyed having you as their teacher during this time.
