Year 10 Work Experience
Last week, all our Y10 international students participated in the "Work Experience" program. A huge thanks to Charmaine Ji and Doanvy Roberts for your support and effort! We have received some very positive feedback from our students and employers:
Will, who was lucky enough, had an opportunity to work at Global Learning Engagement Section in IED (International Education Division) wrote: " I have learned a lot of things through the work experience like, the process of applying for studying in Melbourne; I shared my experience and ideas as an international student myself; I did a presentation about how to use the arts to make overseas students and local students know the culture of each other's countries."
Ray is very interested in IT (coding), and here was the comment from his Employer, Mr Chan from Laputan Software:" It was a pleasure for having you with our team to collaborate during the code pairing sessions. Your contributions are greatly appreciated! I am confident you will do well in your future endeavours".
Mike, who had work experience at a local mechanic shop, told us that he was so excited when he put on the work uniform.
Xavier Kimpton, our local Y10 mainstream student, shared his work experience at our ILC. "At the beginning of my time helping at the ILC (Intensive Language Centre), I felt awkward and nervous. I've learnt how the program works and the wonderful students that it supports. I've experienced parts of being a teacher, helping with projects and marking work. Overall, I had a great time learning about the students and helping them. I feel extremely grateful that I partook in this for work experience as it let me connect with funny and cool people I might have not been able to".
Thank you Xavier for helping our international students and becoming our good friend!
International Student Program Recruitment Trip:
Last week, our College Assistant Principal Mrs Tracey Bastin travelled to Hong Kong for the international student recruitment trip. This was organised by IED and during the tight schedule, they visited 2 schools , attended 3 education fairs and visited 6 agents. Again it has been a very successful trip as we have already had some enquiries for short term and longer enrolments. Thank you Ms Bastin for your dedication to the International Program.
Tour for Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education :
Last Friday, two representatives from the BoE of Japan and one from the ISA agency visited our college. They attended our Y8 Japanese class, ILC Science class and Y12 EAL class. They asked a lot of questions about our STEM program. Thank you Ms E. Capp, Mr D. Power and Ms B. Podesser and Mr. S Belluzzo for your support. The visitors were very impressed with our school tour, our local and International students.
Happy Birthday
We have 4 students' birthdays in May. Happy Birthday to Dylan and Cheryl , who will be turning 17 and 19 years old. Congratulations to Mike who has just come of age; he has the same birthday as Renzo. Thank you Mr D Power, our ILC Maths and Science teacher, for your beautiful cake and chocolate on Renzo's 16th birthday celebration. We all had a wonderful day.
