Sustainability @ TPPS

This week the Preps have been learning about microhabitats that creatures in our local environment need.  We found out that different minibeasts need microhabitats with different temperatures, degrees of moisture, and levels of light.  We also found a very exciting microhabitat of our own!

We have started learning about the Eastern Blue-tongue lizard and how we can create a better habitat for the ones that live in our school grounds. Now we know that they need logs, a rock to bask on, green grass and they love to snack on snails.

The Grade 2s have been investigating why we have seasons on Earth, and how the different seasons affect the way we work in the garden. We have been busy collecting autumn leaves for the compost.

In Grade 5, we have been watching the blue oyster mushrooms grow and learning about the life cycle of fungi. We also worked hard to put lots of autumn leaves into storage bags.

The Grade 6 students have begun to learn about possible sustainable transport systems of the future. We have also been making a new composting experiment in wheelie bins.

This week everyone at school voted for their favourite hen names. They are each wearing a coloured bracelet which corresponds to the background colour below.

So without further ado, here they are!

We have all noticed that they are getting much more used to having people around and are enjoying a gentle cuddle from our students every now and then.

Well done everyone for being so caring and kind to our new pets!
