Principals' Message

Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Pride, Optimism

Hello Parents and Friends,

With only three weeks left in Term 2, Templestowe Park has been a hive of excitement and learning.  Our Grade Prep – 2 students have been undertaking our new literacy teaching model and the student work has been outstanding.  The systematic synthetic phonics approach that we have employed is working extremely well and we have seen excellent outcomes in our recent assessments.  Mrs Twyford, Ms Lucas and Mr Konakoff are now starting to work with our Grade 3-6 teachers on implementing new research-based teaching strategies in the middle to upper primary school classes.  This will continue in Semester 2, and we are so excited to be implementing such groundbreaking work associated with the Science of Learning.

Our Grade 6 students have been undertaking a very important water safety program at Aquarena this week.   By the end of Year 6, it is anticipated that students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills identified in the Victorian Water Safety Certificate.  Our Grade 5/6 students have also been participating in interschool sports and every team has done exceedingly well.  We wish all teams the very best, especially those ones that will be competing in the finals.

We wish everyone a fantastic King's Birthday long weekend!

Mrs Dulics is retiring

As you are all aware, Mrs Tanya Dulics is currently on Long Service Leave for Semester 1.  Tanya recently informed us that at the completion of this leave, she will be retiring from teaching at Templestowe Park PS.

Mrs Dulics has been a valued member of the teaching faculty and community for over twenty years at TPPS. She originally commenced teaching Japanese at TPPS before the school changed to Mandarin in 2016.  We were so lucky to have a teacher that was able to teach both languages and the transition to a new language was seamless.  Tanya has always been known as a talented and passionate educator.  Her cheeky sense of humour was also enjoyed by all within the school.

On behalf of the school and wider community, we would like to thank Mrs Dulics for her outstanding contribution to the education of thousands of students at TPPS and her outstanding work for our school.

We are currently advertising for a new Mandarin teacher to commence at Templestowe Park PS in Term 3.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Please keep free, if possible, the evening of Tuesday June 25th (to 4:30 pm) and Thursday June 27th (to 7:30 pm) for Parent Teacher Interviews.  The mid-year student reports will be available on Compass on Friday June 21st so there will be an opportunity to formally meet with your child’s teacher the following week.

Again, bookings for interviews will be made on Compass.  There will be more information on Compass in the near future about when bookings can commence.

This year, specialist teachers are also available for interviews.  There are five minute time slots available to potentially meet with specialist teachers however, this meeting time is more about any questions you may have about the specialist program or if there is something of concern about your child in that specific specialist area.  E.g. your child may need to develop their fundamental motor skills and you would like to ask the PE teacher for specific advice.  Time does not permit every family meeting with specialist teachers.  If there is a matter of high importance, please feel free to make a booking with a specialist teacher.  One of the specialist teachers may have also contacted you and requested you to make a booking.

On Compass, two different events will appear.  One for classroom teacher bookings and the other for specialist teacher bookings.  More information via Compass next week.

NAIDOC Week at Templestowe Park

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year. At TPPS we are excited to celebrate NAIDOC Week in the final week of Term 2 (Monday 24th - Friday 28th June).

We will celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout the week. NAIDOC Week at TPPS  will commence with Uncle Glenn hosting a Smoking Ceremony on Monday 24th of June at 9:10am.  We are very excited to be a part of this ancient custom as the smoke will cleanse our school and ward off bad spirits from the people and the land.

More information on all of our activities for the week will be published to our community very shortly.  Happy NAIDOC Week!

Delay of School Photos

As published on Compass this week, there continues to be a delay with our 2024 school photos.  Advanced Life are extremely apologetic for the delay, and they are working around the clock to have them delivered to the school.  If we receive any updates from Advanced Life, we will forward them to you immediately.

Manningham Rotary Speech Competition at Templestowe Park PS on Wednesday 19 June

We are very excited to be hosting the Manningham Rotary Speech Competition at Templestowe Park PS on the 19th of June.  The speech competition provides the most talented Grade 6 public speakers in Manningham primary schools, the opportunity to share their speeches with the wider community. In 2023, Xavier L from TPPS was the Manningham winner.  Our Grade 6 students have been delivering their speeches in class and our representatives will be selected shortly after this audition.  We wish all of our Grade 6 students the very best and we can’t wait to find out who will be representing our school in this fantastic competition.

Principals’ Award

At last week’s Assembly, we presented Jaden T from Grade 6 with the Principals’ Award. Jaden is a polite and extremely reliable student. He will help anyone at any time, if it's a teacher asking him to complete a task or a young student wanting to know a new skill in basketball, he will help with a smile. He takes every task head on and will always try his best, especially in Maths. He has been challenging himself in Maths Olympiad and the Melbourne University Research and Statistics Program and will always look at his feedback to improve for next time. He is an extraordinary artist, where his art style inspires his classmates and everything he does is created with pride. He will help anyone in the classroom, be it to conference with someone's work or help with explaining a difficult Maths problem.  Jaden has not missed a single day of school this year and has shown all the RRIPO values every one of those days.

Well done, Jaden!
