Stage 1 News

Welcome to Term 2!  We've had a fantastic start, and our classrooms are bursting with colour and creativity.  Our walls proudly display the hard work and dedication of our students, showcasing their incredible writing skills, from creative stories to detailed descriptions.  We would love you to drop in and admire your child's wonderful work.  In Stage One, we have been working on becoming good PAX leaders. It is amazing how our classroom is becoming an environment that supports learning, wellbeing, and students who are keen to participate and are becoming confident learners.  Between lessons, we keep the energy high with a variety of fun games, with 'Teacher vs. Students' being a clear favourite.  Here's to another amazing term of lots of learning and growth!

ENGLISH

In English this term, students are learning to understand that texts are created in different ways.  We have explored a variety of authors who have written Dreamtime stories, fables, and something new to us: hybrid texts.  A hybrid text is a mix of two different text styles—descriptive storytelling and informative factual writing.  The book we based our hybrid text on was Great White Shark by Claire Saxby.  Below are some examples of our wonderful artwork and informative and descriptive writing.

We have explored two well known fables that have taught us valuable life lessons: "The Tortoise and the Hare" and "The Lion and the Mouse."

The Tortoise and the Hare tells the story of an overconfident hare who mocks a slow-moving tortoise.  When they decide to race, the hare’s arrogance leads him to take a nap mid-race, while the diligent tortoise keeps steadily moving forward, ultimately winning. This tale reminds us that perseverance and consistency often triumph over speed and complacency.  It’s a wonderful lesson for our students.  Stage 1 was able to identify the moral as “Slow and steady wins the race”.

The Lion and the Mouse highlights the unexpected benefits of kindness and the value of even the smallest acts of help.  When a mighty lion spares a tiny mouse, he doesn’t expect anything in return.  Yet, the mouse later saves the lion from a hunter’s net, proving that no act of kindness is ever wasted and that everyone, regardless of their size, can make a significant impact.  This fable’s moral encouraged our students to be kind and compassionate, which reinforced that everyone has unique strengths and abilities.

Both fables have inspired us to be our best selves, whether through steady effort or acts of kindness.  We are going to keep these lessons in mind as we continue our term.

By the end of the English unit, Stage 1 aims to have written their own fable with a moral. Here is a little taster of what is to come.  So, stay tuned everyone!

Here are some amazing artworks that represent the fable, The Lion and the Mouse. Hopefully these will help us use our imagination when writing our own fable.

DANCE

Our Stage 1 students have been showing off their impressive dance moves as they learn a routine to a well-known pop song.  Their enthusiasm and energy have been contagious, lighting up our classrooms and the hall,  with smiles and laughter.  It's wonderful to see them working hard, having fun, and expressing themselves through dance.  We cannot wait to share the finished product with you all at assembly in Week 9.  Don’t miss it!  Great job, Stage 1 – keep grooving!

Also, just a friendly reminder.  To help us ensure that all clothing for e.g., hats, jumpers, jackets find their way back to their owners, we kindly ask that you label your child’s clothing and personal items.  We have a few lost items that have had one too many school sleepovers.

Thank you again,

Stage 1 Team 😀

This Week's Tootles

A Tootle is a possitive message from a student to a student, or from a teacher to a student. Some children take them home to show their family, other's put them on display outside the MPC for others to read.
