At St Michael's we use a number of online assessments to allow us to triangulate our teacher judgement data and classroom observations. Triangulate means that we take into account at least three sources of data before we decide on a progression point for a student.
The online platforms we use are Essential Assessment, PAT (Progressive Achievement Approach), Elastik, English Online Interview (P-2) and Maths Online Interview (P-2). Having a range of assessments helps teachers to discover any gaps in student learning and direct their teaching towards these areas.
Next semester, St Michael's will be setting up a way for families to tune in with student learnings and misunderstandings in Maths on the Essential Assessment platform. This will allow parents to view their child's Post Assessment (data collected after a concept is taught) and identify any misunderstandings. The platform will suggest activities you can do at home to help practice in that particular area of Maths.
Watch this space for instructions on how this will work next Semester!
Last week, Mrs Harding, Mrs Lampe, Miss Casey and myself travelled to Williamstown to attend the Love Maths conference. We heard from a number of experts in the field of Mathematics about the new Maths Curriculum 2.0, engaging and exciting games we can play with our students and how to be explicit when teaching Maths.
We are excited to bring these ideas back to school and see the in action over the coming terms.
If you are looking for some engaging and fun maths games to play at home with your children, check out the LoveMaths website!
