Saint Francis Xavier - Principal's Report
Term 2 - Week 6
Dear Parents and Friends of St Francis Xavier,
Reconciliation Week - 2024
The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will —and must —continue.
During the week commencing Monday 27th May, the students will be involved in learning activities designed to increase their knowledge and awareness of the history and disadvantage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Thank you to our Fire Carrier students and teachers for leading the school community to increase their awareness and understanding of this important week.
First Meeting of the School Advisory Council
It was wonderful to bring our new School Advisory Council members together for our first meeting of the year last Thursday evening. The SAC discussed the recommendations from our 2023 School Review and looked at how the new School Improvement Plan and Annual Action Plans have been constructed. There was also discussion about the Friends of SFX group and potential engagement evenings and fundraising events that could take place in 2024. If enough parent support is available, we are hoping that the following events will take place between now and the end of the year.
-School Disco
-School Movie Night/Games Night
-Father's Day Breakfast
-Lapathon Fundraiser
Grade 6's attend John Paul College Production
Our Grade 6 class were extremely fortunate to have been invited to John Paul College yesterday. We were one of three schools who watched the first live performance of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.' It was such a brilliant show and the students left the theatre absolutely buzzing. Many of them were speaking about how much they would love to be part of a similar production in in the coming years when they begin Secondary School.
It was fantastic to see former S.F.X students Hayley, Sebastian, Maria, Aliyah, Ruby and Will N (who had a main role as Grandpa Joe!) perform so confidently.
Cross Country
Last week, a team of 14 S.F.X students travelled to Ballam Park for the District Cross Country event. Mr Brendan, Miss Kim, Miss Karen and Miss Jane attended on the day and said they could not have been any prouder of our students and the effort and sportsmanship they displayed.
To all of the students who competed - well done to you! Cross Country is definitely one of the most challenging sports to participate in. Unbelievably, some of our students actually ran in two races on the same day! A special pat on the back to Alisha (Grade 6), Amelie (Grade 4) and Macey (Grade 4) who all qualified for the Regional event which takes place next Wednesday.
We will aim to run our whole school cross country event in Term 4, when the sewer work at Beauty Park has been completed.
New Cubby House
On Tuesday afternoon, the students were very excited to see the big truck transporting our new cubby house drive through the school gates. The cubby was provided to us for free, courtesy of the team from Lendlease (Frankston Hospital Development).
There are now so many different options for creative play scattered throughout our beautiful school. The students are very lucky and we are very grateful for this generous donation.
We will use the next meeting of the Student Representative Council to discuss themes that we could use for the cubby house, as well as resources that will need to be purchased to fill it up.
Karate Achievement!
A huge congratulations to our vey own Jack B (Grade 6) who recently qualified for the Victorian Karate Kumite Team. Jack has been learning Karate for 5 years now, he recieved his black belt last year and is now looking forward to the National Championships which will take place in Geelong later in the year.
Well done Jack - we can't wait to hear how it goes!
School Closure Days
A reminder that there are 2 school closure days coming up.
- Thursday 6th June and Friday 7th June
The staff will be working at the Catholic Leadership Centre in East Melbourne on these two days.
Heavenly Father,
as we celebrate Reconciliation Week in Australia, we thank You for the rich cultural heritage of our Indigenous brothers and sisters. Guide us to open our hearts to understanding and unity. Help us to seek forgiveness for past wrongs and to walk together in harmony and respect. May our school community reflect Your love and compassion, fostering a spirit of reconciliation and peace. Bless our efforts to build a just and inclusive future for all.
Amen.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
