Biology News

This week, Unit 4 Biology kicked off with the key topic, "Responding to Antigens." To explore the characteristics of cellular pathogens, such as bacteria, we conducted an experiment plating bacteria (Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis) onto nutrient agar and exposing them to various antibiotics.

Over the next few days, we'll observe the growth of our bacterial lawns and measure the zone of inhibition – the area where bacteria cannot grow.

We're aiming to determine if certain antibiotics are more effective against these bacterial strains or if the bacteria have developed resistance.

This experiment will prepare us for our Unit 4 Outcome 3 SAC, where each student will design and test their own bacterial resistance experiment.
