Rugby League
St Augustine's Aaron Payne Cup team started the season with an emphatic win against Mackay SHS 30-0 during Round 1 of the competition. First half tries to Waterman Niopo, Rhys Woolcott, Jack Rix and Noah Dowdle put the result beyond doubt and before a penalty goal and a late coverted try to five eighth Corey Anderson sealed the victory.
Round 2 saw the First XIII take on Holy Spirit College in Townsville. Saints got off to a rapid start with Ben Walker scoring two tries in the opening minutes to put Holy Spirit on the back foot. The momentum continued with the boys piling on 13 unanswered points to secure an entertaining 80-0 victory. Ben Walker led the way with a hat trick of tries, Jack Rix and Blaze Mowles scored a brace of tries with Waterman Noipo, Tristian Martin, Rhys Woolcott, Braith Clubb, Leslie Fatafehi, Xavier Lallemand and Lucas Russell all scoring tries.
The Under-15s Cowboys Challenge team had a disappointing start to their season with a 32-4 loss to Mackay SHS. The team showed glimpses of their potential and fought back from an early onslaught to go into half-time at 16-4 thanks to a Piiramu Wilson try. The boys could not continue on with this momentum and, unfortunately, conceded late tries to go down 32-4.
The boys showed great improvement in their Round 2 game against Holy Spirit College. Piiramu Wilson opened the scoring early before Saints conceded tries to be down 12-6 late in the game. A late try to Leo Pezzelato saw Saints level the score and come away with a 12-12 draw.
Both teams will take on Mareeba SHS on Monday of Week 9 where they'll look to build their starts to the season before the First XIII compete in the Confraternity Shield over the holidays.
Thanks to our sponsors: Norweld, I-Lec, Brothers, Trinity Auto Group, Pezzalato Farms and JGP Electrical for their ongoing support of the Saints Rugby League program.

CISSA Sport
Saints finished the regular season in style with a perfect 5 from 5 victories. They secured premier division semi-final places for our AFL, Basketball, Football and Touch Football teams, while our Volleyball team finished in fifth to qualify for the Division 1 finals. All five teams secured victories to qualify for their respective grand finals. Saints secured dominant victories in the AFL, Touch Football and Volleyball finals; however, unfortunately, lost to rivals Cairns High in the Basketball and Football finals. The performances of our teams throughout the season saw Saints once again secure the ‘Overall Boys’ and ‘Overall School’ titles for the 2024 season. Thanks to our coaches: Mr Rigby, Mr Cutuli, Mr Chapman, Mr Sorensen, Mr Brimstone, Mrs Oldfield and Mr Elliott for your work with our teams throughout the season.

It was an exceptional day for our boys as they won all their preliminary matches, ultimately clinching second place after losing to Smithfield High in the grand finals.
