Music Extension
Our Year 11 Music class went to the Music Extension recital at St Monica’s Cathedral on 17 May. Both the St Augustine’s and St Monica’s students presented their performance and composition assessments to their audience. Ms Langtree spoke to the Year 11s at the end sharing what was involved in the subject and what they could expect next year if they chose the subject. Jude Godfrey performed his arrangement of “Cyclone” by Sticky Fingers using looping pedals and various techniques. Well done to all.
Saints Unplugged
Our Semester 1 Saints Unplugged evenings were held last week: the junior evening on Wednesday night and the seniors on Thursday. The Saints Guitar Ensemble made their debut performance with “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk and “Wipeout” by the Surfaris. There were other outstanding small groups and individual performances on both nights.
The experience is essential for our music students to practise performing in a supportive environment. It's also a great opportunity for their parents to see what they’ve been working on since the beginning of the year.
Mrs McKenzie and our wonderful hospitality students prepared and served light meals and drink each night. Thank you to all who assisted on the evenings, but particularly to our instrumental teachers: Mr Matthew Chandler, Ms Julie Mercer, Ms Tullara Connors and Mr Dan Darveniza.
St Monica’s performance
Our Combined Saints Colleges Wind Ensemble performed at St Monica’s assembly last Thursday. It’s been a little while since we ventured over to our sister college to perform. We trust the students enjoyed the performance and we’ve inspired more students to join the program. The Wind Ensemble performed Movement 3 & 4 of 2nd Suite in F by Gustav Holst.
AHEP
Congratulations to Daniel O’Donnell (Year 11) on his selection to participate in the Australian Honours Ensemble Program.
Eisteddfod
As a warm up to the Eisteddfod, there was an Eisteddfod Extravaganza on Wednesday night in Lennon Hall. St Monica’s students joined us for the combined groups as well as their choirs and handbell groups. Saints Choir, Big Band and Sax ensemble also performed their pieces. Once again Mrs McKenzie and her hospitality students prepared some delicious food for the close to 200 people in the audience.
In Week 10, all instrumental groups are scheduled to perform on Monday 17 June and choir on Tuesday 18 June. Information has been sent out on parent slips.
Spirit of Arts Awards
This award has been developed to recognise the work of our arts students in the College and wider community. It also serves as an encouragement for those students to take it a step further by mentoring younger students or organising an event themselves. The application is available on the student portal or a hard copy can be obtained from the Arts/Music Department staffroom. If your son has exhibited artwork, entered work in a film festival, participated in the musical, sits external exams, performs at eisteddfod etc., he is eligible to apply.

Information for events and performances is on the Arts Department Facebook page. There's also information in the newsletter and parent slips are sent out. Below is a calendar of events planned so far. This will be added to over the course of the year, so please reread it each edition to check that you are abreast of all that his happening.
