Kindy Red explored data representation in Mathematics. They explored how to gather and represent this in a picture graph. Students were asked what their favourite ice-cream flavour was, looks like chocolate is a clear winner.

A shout out to all the year 9 students who have received either an All Rounder or Bronze Certificates in recognition of their hard work and achievements throughout Term 3. A bright and successful Term 4 awaits!
Mr Abboud - Year 9 Year Advisor

Australian award-winning author JC Burke (author of previously studied HSC text “The Story of Tom Brennan”) visited MCHF and gave a creative writing workshop to Year 9.1A English.
Alongside a few other Year 9 students, the workshop provided insight to help students to sharpen their creative writing skills. Through her insightful tips and thought-provoking methods, JC Burke engaged with the students as they were exposed to not only the inner workings of an author but also how to create short stories that are impactful, creative and empathetic.
A big thank you to Mrs Papanastasiou for organising the workshop which greatly benefited the students. Thank you also to Sheryl Cootes from Westwords for suggesting and arranging Jane’s visit.”

Year 3 recently enjoyed an exciting excursion to Auburn Botanic Gardens, where they explored the beautiful Japanese gardens and ventured through Australian native bushland on an immersive tour with Ranger Jamie. As part of their Geography unit on commemorations and celebrations, students discovered the significance of these natural spaces in cultural celebrations. They also channelled their creativity by making their own dragons, connecting art with cultural storytelling. It was a memorable day that enriched their understanding of how natural landscapes are celebrated across different cultures.

As part of year 9's creative writing workshops at the end of Term 3, Mr Abboud's 9.1A English class have created their own haiku poems, which are poems consisting of three lines of syllabic patterns of 5-7-5. With a focus on nature, the seasons or moments of beauty/simplicity, the students created these to reflect their surroundings which aimed to capture a brief but meaningful moment.

Kindy blue enjoyed an exciting trip to the aquarium, where they explored the sea creatures they’ve been learning about this term.

On Thursday 31 October, Year 6 students had their second transition session. The focus of this session was based on student wellbeing and pastoral.
They started by unpacking the concept of wellbeing, their role, and the support networks available at the college to support students as they transition into secondary.
Students then broke into smaller groups facilitated by our Year 11 Student leaders and volunteers to complete a range of activities based on managing stress, hopes and anxieties, emotional regulation, and setting up habits for success.
The session wrapped-up with an address by Mr Pearn, who outlined the behaviour expectations. Students were well engaged in the Q&A that followed, we look forward to supporting their journey into secondary education.

Kindy Red took turns measuring and using the terms nearly empty, half full, nearly full and full to describe the volume of coloured rice in plastic cups. It was pleasing to see the students engaged in the hands on learning experience.

During one of the first HSC Pastoral Sessions the students were privileged enough to be mentored by two senior English Teachers Mr Cunningham and Mrs Swamy. The teachers focused primarily on HSC questions short answers and extended responses. We are lucky to have experienced HSC teachers and for the next term these sessions will continue to help enhance students ability and confidence in exam writing.
