The Exec Address

From the desks of Sr Margaret, Mr Asmar & Ms Dalla

Executive Principal

Dear MCHF Community,

We are halfway through the final term and it is busy and will get even busier.

First and foremost we have all students completing assessments this term from K to 11, we have Y12 final exams, Years 1-10 completing PAT testing, and Y10 completing All My Own Work. Following on from this, we then have teachers marking and report writing so there is a great deal to do and a great deal of pressure. As such, I ask parents to work alongside staff through these last few weeks.

Our new pick-up procedure involves all students who are picked up from the kiss and go zone waiting in the D block playground with the staff who are on bus duty. A teacher will announce each family’s name once the car approaches. Each car has been given a label with their children’s names on it. Once the names are announced, staff on duty will escort the children to the car. We hope this will alleviate the many problems that had arisen during pick up time. I also remind parents once again to be mindful of road rules.

Over the coming weeks we have important events happening and we invite all to be part of these. Please note the following:

  • 2025 Y7 Information evening on 12 November at 6.30 pm
  • 2025 Leaders Induction Mass on 15 November at 9 am in the Cathedral
  • On 20 November we have the Primary End-of-Year concert at 6.30 pm in the Secondary Hall
  • 21 November we have the TAS/CAPA exhibition throughout the day in B block
  • 22 November prayers for Lebanon
  • 3 December we have the Secondary Expo at 6.30pm in the Secondary hall
  • 5 December is Primary End-of-Term awards
  • 6 December is Secondary End-of-Year awards

Every Saturday at 5pm there is an accessible Mass held in our Chapel for those families who have children with high needs. Fr Ron presides over the Mass. All those families who have children that need quiet space are invited to the Mass. Entry is via Weston Street.

Let us keep Lebanon and the Middle East in our prayers as we travel towards the peace of Christmas.

Journeying towards the end of the year!

Dear MCHF Community,

We are at the midpoint of Term 4 meaning we are heading towards the end of our journey of growth for the year.

When we are on a road trip or traveling overseas and we are towards the end, the feelings of excitement, anticipation, and sometimes anxiety start to show on us.

This is how we are feeling as we head towards the end of our journey this year. Formal and summative assessments are occurring now which brings some level of anxiety to some students. However, the College endeavours to support all our students in their journey right until the end.

Therefore, it is more important now than ever throughout the year that we remain committed to supporting one another in the educational journey of our students. It is an expectation that students are on task and continue to respect their teachers, their peers and their parents.

Towards the end of last term, we commenced the AIS effective schools service to help solidify and unite our identity and our operations at MCHF towards school improvement. We will be launching and presenting the work we are doing in 2025.

Already this term we have had so much happening across the College:

  • On Monday 14th October at our Staff Development Day, members of our staff updated their CPR qualifications. Our staff also participated in a session where the focus was on who we are at MCHF – our mission, vision, values, student and staff attributes, and our vision for learning.
  • Our Year 11 students attended a camp at The Great Aussie Bush Camp in the Tea Gardens.
  • Year 10 students completing preparation for senior years meetings in the first two weeks of the term.
  • Kindy, Year 1, 2, and 6 students participating in gymnastics program.
  • Year 3, 4, and 5 students completing the learn to swim program.
  • Year 11 VET students completing their mandatory work placement.
  • 2025 Kindy orientation on Thursday 24th October.
  • Celebrating World Teachers Day on Friday 25th October.
  • Kindy and Year 1 students attending the Healthy Harold incursion.
  • Kindy excursion to the Sydney Aquarium on Thursday 31st October.
  • Year 6 students participating in their second transition to secondary session.

As all our events and activities are being held for the remainder of this year, we are also looking ahead towards 2025 and are currently planning with finalising staffing, classes, timetables, and the opening of our new H Block.

We look forward to what lies ahead over the next month as we head towards the end of our journey of growth.

God bless

Head of Curriculum (K-12)

Dear MCHF Community,

Term 4 2024 from a curriculum perspective is probably one of the busiest terms of the academic year. Here is just a snapshot of what is happening:

  • Year 12 2024 have been undergoing their HSC examinations. They commenced on the 15th of October and will conclude on the 8th of November.
  • Year 9 and 10 Yearly examinations taking place in weeks 3 and 4.
  • Year 7 and 8 Yearly examinations taking place in weeks 5 and 6.
  • K-10 PAT testing taking place between weeks 4 and 6. PAT (Progressive Achievement Testing) is an approach for the College to determine the academic progress of students in Mathematics and English and plan accordingly.
  • Year 5 and 6 will be completing end-of-course exams in Maths and English. These exams mirror the exam style in Year 7 and act as a good way to assess knowledge and understanding, as well as assist the Head of Curriculum and KLA Coordinators to determine Maths and English levels in Year 7 for 2025
  • Year 10 will be completing the HSC All My Own Work Program. This is a mandatory requirement for Year 10 students to complete in order to be able to commence Stage 6 studies

In the midst of all of this, staff are preparing for the commencement of the academic year.

Looking forward to seeing the results and acknowledging performance at the End of Year Academic Assembly for both Primary and Secondary.

Regards,

Ms. G Dalla

Head of Curriculum K-12
