Grade 3/4 News
Welcome to Week 4 in the 3/4 area.
In Literacy, we have been looking at our throughline of history through the book ‘Our Place’ by Nadia Wheatley and Doona Rawlins.
My Place depicts the history of one particular piece of land in Sydney from 1788 to 1988 through the stories of the various children who have lived there.
We have also been watching some episodes of Back in Time for Dinner.
Discussing as a speaking and listening tasks at the time periods of 1950s until 2000s, looking at the fashion, jobs, kitchen, food and important events of the era.
To continue to watch this as a family, the episodes are available on ABC iview.
In Writing, we have been writing historical recounts of peoples lives.
We have been using timelines to help with these recounts.
Students have asked a special person some important questions of their lives and then recorded these using headings and subheadings and organised the information.
We are now writing about ‘Our Place’.
Where do we live? What does it look like? Who lives with us? What is our favourite spot at our place? What is our favourite memory of our place?
In Mathematics we have just finished our week on fractions and decimals.
We looked at fraction walls and equivalent fractions we can make.
This week we are heading into multiplication and division.
We are looking at a range of different strategies we can use to solve worded problems.
We are also practising our times tables.
In Religion, we are exploring the unit “Jesus Models Forgiveness”.
Students have explored forgiveness, through our 3/4 liturgy time and also in the classroom.
Students enjoyed the stories about The Lost Sheep and The Prodigical Son.
