Full of fun in Foundation
This morning, the Foundation students had a visit from the Glen Waverley Firefighters! Each year, they run a Fire Ed program for the students, which teaches them about community helpers, safe and unsafe fires and what to do in an emergency. The students participated in many discussions and practised how to 'crawl low and go, go, go' and also how to 'stop, drop, cover and roll'. The program is extremely beneficial each year and we are very grateful to have this experience. Next week the students will learn about fire trucks and the equipment inside.
In Foundation, we have been focusing on the topic of Sustainability! The students have been investigating different ways that they can reduce, reuse and recycle old materials. We read a story called 'Michael Recycle' which the students adored. It spoke after different ways that we can look after our environment and the importance of keeping our world clean. Here are some 'Super Hero' recyclers!
In preparation for our Maths Afternoon, the students have been busy practising their maths games. They have really enjoyed this time to build fluency with their paritions, doubles facts, shapes and days of the week topics. I'm sure that they will look forward to play with their families this afternoon. We have also been learning about subtraction in maths. The students completed a craft activity about apples falling out of a tree.
This term, we have been using dotted thirds to practise our handwriting. Following on with our explicit direct instruction approach, each day students practise their handwriting for 10 minutes. They have done a remarkable join transferring their knowledge of letter formation to the dotted thirds lines. I am very proud, and they are most certainly ready for Grade 1 writing!
