Leadership Communication

Dear Families,

On Remembrance Day, we pause to honor and remember the sacrifices of all who have served in the defence of our nation.

This day holds special meaning as we reflect on the courage and dedication shown by countless men and women who faced hardship and danger to protect our freedom. Among these, we must acknowledge the brave Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who fought for Australia through multiple wars. Despite their loyalty and sacrifice, many were often overlooked and treated unjustly.

The gum leaf wreath artwork by Nina Kelabora (pictured left) is a beautiful tribute inspired by the late Aunty Dot Peters AM, who honored the Shrine each year with a gum leaf wreath. The colours of the leaves are chosen to match those in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags. Each leaf, placed side by side, proudly symbolizes the unity and shared service of both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal soldiers who have served and continue to serve together in the Australian Defence Force.

Jesus teaches us to recognize and cherish the dignity of every person and their unique role and purpose in the world. Jesus' message calls us to not only remember those who served but also to ensure that every voice and story is valued and respected. Remembrance Day is a time for the entire Australian community to come together, to reflect on our shared history, and to renew our commitment to reconciliation and peace.

As we stand in silence to remember, we are also reminded of the ongoing conflicts around the world where people continue to suffer. This day encourages us to reflect on the impact of war and to renew our hope for a future where peace prevails.

A Prayer for Peace

Heavenly Father, we pray for all those who have served and sacrificed for the good of others. We ask for your guidance toward a world filled with understanding, respect, and love. Bring comfort to those who have been affected by conflict and guide us to be instruments of your peace. Grant us the strength to build a future where every person is cherished and peace is shared among all.

Amen.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
