CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Writing, we are learning to plan and write about a character. 


VOCABULARY

Narrative: a fiction text that tells a story

 

Character: the person in a story

 

Fiction: a made up story

 

Traits: characteristics or qualities that makes a person different

 

Outside Traits: your physical characteristics eg: hair or eye colour

 

Inside Traits: the qualities or behaviours of a character


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Discuss your child’s favourite story book characters. Discuss what a character is and some describing words for them. Discuss inside (personality) and outside character traits.

 

After the discussion your child can have a go at writing using any media, paper or technology  about the character. 

 

Eg. The Three Little Monkeys

 

Monkey.

One long tail, two fluffy ears, curly brown fur, ten long fingers. 

Cheeky, naughty, laughing, playful, clever, social.
