Being Knowledgeable
Don't we all love a great quiz show?! Whether it be The Chase, Jeopardy or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, all of these shows focus on the person who can answer the most correct questions getting the highest prize - usually money. It is funny how we link knowledge with reward.
In the Bible, knowledge is linked with wisdom and humility. Proverbs, known as one of the Wisdom books of the Bible, has a lot to say about knowledge:
- "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight." Proverbs 9:10
- "For wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;" Proverbs 2:10
- "How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver." Proverbs 16:16
A common thread in these verses is knowing that real knowledge and understanding is about filling our hearts, minds and souls with what is good and pleasing to God.
When I talk with our secondary students it pleases me to hear their desires for their future are about gaining more knowledge (at school or university) so they can get a good job where they can help other people. How pleasing it is that they want to share Jesus' love with others by showing compassion, kindness and mercy. The fact that these young people have a heart and mind for service tells me they "get it" - they have knowledge and understanding of how we can make the world a better place.

Preparing for Exams
Term 4 is when our VCE students engage with end-of-year exams. While exams play an important role in testing the knowledge of our students, they don't define the "whole person". At GNLC, while teachers work extensively with students to prepare them for their final exams, we also support students in knowing and understanding that they are more than just a number at the end of the year by focusing on their skills and attributes as a whole.
We encourage parents to have a look at the Schoolbox resources on Surviving Year 12. These resources offer valuable advice on how to support your child during this stressful period.
