Update from our APs

Curriculum 2.0 Update

We have already begun utilising the updated Mathematics 2.0 curriculum this year as part of the newly revised Victorian Curriculum F–10 Version 2.0. This updated approach is helping our students engage more deeply with mathematical concepts, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Looking ahead to 2025, we will be expanding our implementation of Version 2.0 by introducing the updated English curriculum and Specialist areas. These changes will continue to enhance our students’ learning experiences across all areas of the curriculum.

Best Practice, the Wimba Way!

We are proud to share that Wimba Primary School’s commitment to best practice instruction has gained recognition from both Education Improvement Leaders and schools from across the region and beyond. Over the past few months, we have welcomed educational leaders and staff from nearby and distant schools who have come to observe our instructional model in action.

This recognition highlights the hard work and dedication of our teaching team and their efforts to provide the highest quality learning experiences for all students. The opportunity to showcase our teaching approaches and collaborate with other schools underscores the innovative and effective practices we have in place at Wimba.

World Teachers' Day

This Friday, 25th October 2024, we join schools across the globe in celebrating World Teachers' Day. This year is especially significant as it marks 30 years since the first recognition of this important day in 1994. It serves as a special reminder of the extraordinary work our educators do every day, shaping the future of our children with dedication, passion, and care.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful Wimba educators for their hard work and commitment to nurturing our students’ learning and growth. Their positive impact on the lives of our children is invaluable, and we are so fortunate to have such a dedicated team.

Assessment and Reporting

We would like to share the latest assessment and reporting updates from the Victorian Department of Education (DET). As part of the ongoing commitment to transparent and meaningful student reporting, the DET continues to emphasise the importance of:

  1. Clear and timely feedback: Compass Common Assessment Tasks include detailed insights into your child’s progress, strengths, and areas for further growth.
  2. Consistency in assessment: Wimba staff use a combination of classroom observations, tasks, and formal assessments to provide a well-rounded picture of student achievement.
  3. Curriculum alignment: End of Semester Reports will reflect student progress against the Victorian Curriculum F–10, ensuring consistency across schools.

Engagement and Wellbeing

The latest engagement and wellbeing updates from the Victorian Department of Education (DET), focus on supporting students holistically and fostering strong connections between schools, students, and families:

Enhanced Wellbeing Support: Wimba is prioritising student wellbeing by encouraging schools to offer a range of mental health and wellbeing programs. These initiatives focus on building resilience, managing stress, and promoting positive mental health, ensuring every student has the support they need to thrive.

Engaging Learning Environments: We are committed to creating inclusive and engaging classrooms where students feel valued and involved. Through strategies that promote student voice and agency, students will have more opportunities to actively participate in shaping their school experiences.

Family and Community Engagement: Strengthening the partnership between our school and families continues to be our focus. Compass and newsletter communication promote regular, meaningful communication with families to foster a collaborative approach in supporting students’ learning and wellbeing.

World Kindness Day

World Kindness Day is just around the corner on November 13, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to focus on the small acts that can make a big difference in our community. The day was first introduced by the World Kindness Movement, a global group dedicated to creating a kinder, more compassionate world.

Since 1998, people from all over the world—including countries like Australia, the United States, and Thailand—have come together to celebrate kindness. The idea is simple: to highlight the good deeds that connect us and spread positivity.

We encourage you to join us in celebrating World Kindness Day by doing something kind—whether it’s a smile, or a thoughtful message. Let’s inspire our children to build a world where kindness is at the heart of everything we do.

Disability and Inclusion

The latest Disability and Inclusion updates from the Victorian Department of Education (DET). These updates reflect ongoing efforts to ensure all students, including those with disabilities, have equitable access to education and support:

Disability Inclusion Reform: Wimba are continuing to implement the Disability Inclusion reform, aimed at providing more tailored support for students with disabilities. This includes new resources, additional funding, and access to specialist services to meet individual needs more effectively.

Individual Education Plans (IEPs): We emphasise the importance of IEPs for students with disabilities, ensuring they have personalised goals and strategies that cater to their specific learning and developmental needs. Families will play a key role in collaborating with teachers to develop and review these plans. Student Support Group meetings will be occurring in Weeks Six and Seven of this term.

Professional Development for Staff: at Wimba we provide ongoing professional development for teachers and support staff in the areas of inclusive practices and differentiated instruction, helping to create an environment where all students can succeed.
