Update from the Principal

Welcome to the very first edition of our school newsletter 'The Wimba Way'.

The school newsletter is an integral part of the communication used by schools to share important, detailed, and regular updates with parents. It's a way to help our current school community feel more connected to the everyday workings of the classroom and to showcase a glimpse of school life for parents. It is also a place to celebrate the many successes that this school will have.

Our aim is to produce our newsletter every 3 weeks (Week 3,6 and 9 of each term), and to make it available on our website, compass and facebook page.

Welcome back

Welcome back for Term 4! We hope all of our students had an enjoyable break and that families had the opportunity for some down time with them. Term Four is always a big one for both students and staff, but it is also exciting as we plan and look forward to 2025.

Make a heading, and add some articles

SunSmart rules apply

A reminder for families that Term 4 is a SunSmart ‘no hat, no play’ term. It was great to see most of our students with their hats on Monday - no one wants to miss out on the fun of play while stuck in an undercover area!

Social Media Safety

Parents and carers play an important role in supporting their children to be safe online and on social media. You can help your children safely navigate their digital world and educate them to avoid harmful online experiences. You can explore websites, games, apps and social media together and set some rules and boundaries. Your support and guidance can give your children the knowledge to make sound decisions online and confidence to ask for help when they need it. It is also important to stay informed about online safety.

The Department of Education recognises this important issue and has developed fact sheets about supports to help keep students safe online and what to do if they are involved in an online incident. The fact sheets contain links to evidence-based information on supporting positive and safe online experiences, signs a child or young person might need support, what to do if something unsafe happens online, and where to reach out to for more support. To access the fact sheets, refer to the Safe Socials webpage. The fact sheets are available in 19 community languages.

Student Attitude to School Survey 2024

Earlier this year, our Year 4 to Year 6 students completed the on-line Attitude to School survey.

The Student Attitude to School Survey asks students to respond to questions in the domains of:

  1. Effective Teacher Practice
  2. Emotional and Relational Engagement
  3. Individual and Social Wellbeing
  4. Learner Characteristics and Dispositions
  5. Not Experiencing Bullying
  6. Not Experiencing Racism
  7. Physical and Mental Health
  8. School Safety
  9. Social Engagement
  10. Teacher – Student Relations

Our students positive responses were above results in every domain when compared to our:

  • Similar schools like ours across the State
  • Local network of schools
  • All schools in Victoria

This is a truly remarkable achievement!

This indicates our students are really happy to come to school, they understand attendance is important, they have friends at school and feel they belong and are accepted, they are challenged, motivated and enjoy their learning, they feel safe, the school manages bullying well, their perception of their physical health is good, they are resilient and they can self-regulate.

Professional Practice Day

Our Professional Practice day for all staff will be on Monday 4th November 2024.  Students are requested not to attend school on this day.  Kelly Club will be operating on this day, please register if care is needed.
