What to expect in the strength and Conditioning Sessions
Ivanhoe Edge students have the benefit of choosing from a range of strength and conditioning sessions that best suit their goals. Our program offers diverse options while providing targeted training in each session.
All sessions are run by qualified Strength and Conditioning Coaches who assist with program modifications and ensure proper technique.
Each student can select up to 48 strength and conditioning sessions per semester, tailoring their program to their individual needs.

Speed and Agility Sessions
These sessions focus on developing elite-level movement skills and enhancing overall speed and capacity for diverse movement tasks. They are ideal for students looking to improve their speed on the court and refine their running technique. Throughout the semester, students will participate in regular speed and agility testing, allowing them to track their progress and witness their improvements over time.
Pool Conditioning and Recovery sessions
Pool Conditioning and Recovery Sessions are designed to enhance cardiovascular fitness through water-based training. Ideal for Water Polo players looking to improve their swimming endurance, these sessions also provide a low-impact alternative for students recovering from injuries. By utilising the buoyancy and resistance of water, students can build strength, improve stamina, and maintain fitness levels while minimising stress on joints and muscles, making it a versatile option for both performance enhancement and rehabilitation.
Strength Sessions
At Ivanhoe Edge, students are assessed and monitored through testing sessions that focus on both movement efficiency and their developmental stage. Based on these assessments as well as their age, students are placed in the appropriate program—either Junior Edge, Strength Foundation, or Strength Development & Performance. Each program is designed with a specific focus to ensure a continuum of development, providing students with the right support to achieve their full potential. Whether they are just starting out or advancing in their athletic journey, these sessions are structured to guide students through every stage of their growth and skill development.
Junior Edge Sessions
Junior Edge sessions offer a diverse range of movements and skills, setting the foundation for future athletic success. Through fun, game-based activities, students develop essential athletic abilities such as strength, power, speed, agility, and flexibility, ensuring a well-rounded approach to their early physical development.
Strength Foundation Sessions
Designed for students in Years 5-7, these sessions focus on building movement competency in various strength and power skills. Led by a Strength and Conditioning coach, the program emphasises proper technique and foundational strength, helping younger students develop the skills necessary for future athletic performance.
Strength Development & Performance Sessions
Open to students in Years 8-12, these sessions offer a more autonomous training environment where athletes lead their own workouts with guidance from a coach. The focus is on mastering proper lifting techniques and progressively developing strength and power, tailored to each athlete's developmental stage and performance goals.
Running Conditioning Sessions
Coming soon to Ivanhoe Edge will be our Running Conditioning Sessions. These sessions are designed to improve endurance, speed, and running technique, helping students enhance their overall performance and efficiency. These sessions focus on developing proper form, breathing control, and pacing strategies while building cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength. By refining these key elements, students can increase their stamina, reduce the risk of injury, and perform at a higher level in various sports and physical activities.
