From the Head of Ivanhoe Edge

Michelle van Beek, Head of Ivanhoe Edge
As we approach the end of 2024, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Ivanhoe Edge staff, students, and families for your support and enthusiasm during Ivanhoe Edge’s inaugural year. Launching a brand-new program was no small task, and seeing the transformation in so many of our students has been truly rewarding. I’ve loved watching so many students develop their skills and grow in confidence as the year has progressed.
Some of the unexpected moments that I’ll remember most are seeing the bonds form not only within year levels but also across campuses. Seeing the smiles on students' faces as they achieve their goals has been a highlight. I also love chatting with our coaches after their sessions about the students’ progress or hearing tips on areas to focus on during the week.
Other highlights include mixing with athletes at the VIS and watching the Boomers and Opals during their training camps. Developing strong connections with our coaching team has also been vital to ensuring consistency for our students in the program.
The bus trips to University Campus have provided some of the most insightful moments, where incidental conversations often reveal how our students are feeling about their day and their progress. Additionally, hearing from our expert speakers at the workshops held throughout the year has been invaluable.
Connecting with families and supporting students through their recovery from injuries, and then finally seeing them play again, has been so rewarding. Watching our coaches in action at games has also allowed our students to see firsthand the level of gameplay, fitness, and strength required to perform at the top level.
Overall, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for your unwavering support and the commitment you’ve shown to the program. I’ve been truly blown away by the passion and enthusiasm everyone has shared.

Student workshops and insights
This year we hosted a range of workshops and webinars. Our most recent student workshops led by physiotherapists Amy O’Shannassy and Ben Oliver, focused on injury prevention and management. Parents had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into supporting young athletes, while students participated in hands-on activities. They learned taping techniques, underwent injury screenings, and discussed the importance of training load, strength, and sleep. These engaging sessions have empowered participants and highlighted our commitment to student health and success.
Thank you all for making 2024 such a memorable and inspiring year. It’s been a privilege to see the growth and development of our students—both physically and personally. I’m excited for the opportunities ahead in 2025 and look forward to another incredible year with Ivanhoe Edge!
