This term, our children will be engaged in a range of activities to strengthen their literacy skills, with a focus on reading comprehension, writing, and spelling.
In reading, we will continue working on "Leaving Tracks", where we will actively record our thoughts, questions, and connections as we read. This strategy promotes deeper engagement with texts. Our children will also learn to analyse the strategies authors use to influence readers, examining how language, structure, and tone can persuade or shape opinions. We will focus on identifying key techniques such as rhetorical devices, descriptive language, and narrative perspective.
In writing, we will embark on an exciting journey as we prepare for leadership speeches in Year 5. These speeches will allow our children to reflect on their leadership qualities and articulate their vision for the future. Our Year 6 children will be crafting a memoir for graduation, an opportunity for personal reflection on their primary school experiences, milestones, and growth. This memoir will serve as a meaningful keepsake as they transition to the next stage of their education.
To further enhance their language skills, we will continue to explore morphology by studying the roots, prefixes, and suffixes that build the foundation of many English words. This will help students understand how words are constructed and improve their vocabulary. We’ll also be reviewing key spelling patterns, reinforcing rules and strategies to support accurate spelling in their writing.
