The year has commenced with an array of experiences for our arts students.

Year 10 Visual Art

During Week 2, Year 10 Visual Art students visited Enoggera Creek to develop a collection of photographs with a focus on the lines, textures, shapes, spaces and colours found in the natural environment as inspiration for their first major artwork for the year using mixed media.

Certificate III in Visual Art

The final unit of work for our Year 12 Certificate III in Visual Art students involves the design and creation of a framed stained glass panel. This week, students engaged in a stained glass workshop where they learnt skills in cutting and grinding glass, (difficult skills to master but each student picked up the techniques with ease and were masters by the end of the two hour session).  Future practical lessons will see the students learning how to cut, miter and bend the lead came and finally soldering all components together. We look forward to seeing the finished products.

Opportunity for Arts and Classroom Music Students

“The Makers Series: The Art of Live Looping (featuring Dub FX)”

SAE Brisbane is hosting the next instalment of its Maker Series at SAE Brisbane on Thursday 19 February, featuring independent artist Dub FX. This opportunity may be of interest to Years 9–12 Arts and Classroom Music students, through the development of skills in performance technology and contemporary music practices.

Hosted by SAE Music lecturer Andy Vollmer, The Art of Live Looping explores contemporary approaches to live music performance, focusing on the use of technology in independent music-making. The session will examine Dub FX’s progression from street performance to international touring, highlighting how creative use of accessible technology supports live looping, sound production, and solo performance.

The event provides students with insight into modern performance practices, music technology, and creative industry pathways, and includes a live Q&A session with the artist.
