Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding

Last Wednesday evening we had the first meeting of the Boarder Parent Network (BPN) for the year. This online meeting was well attended by almost 40 parents who heard a whole school update from the Head of College and I was also able to provide some key boarding information as we get underway in 2026. The Parent Reps were announced and they will start connecting up parents in the same year level by creating WhatsApp groups. This has proven over the years to be a valuable way for boarding parents to come together socially at school events, and also to ask questions of other parents. The BPN meets at the beginning of each term (online) and I encourage all parents to join the next meeting.

One of the more frustrating things in boarding is when clothing goes missing. This is upsetting for all concerned – boys, families and staff. The best way to prevent clothes not coming back after washing is to clearly name every item with the boarder’s name and laundry number. The best approach to naming clothes is with sewn-on labels, but iron-on labels also work well. Writing on clothes with a permanent marker does not tend to last and will fade significantly after multiple washes. It is quite concerning the size of the unnamed clothing container at the moment. Please ensure all of your son’s clothing is clearly named and it would be worthwhile checking this each holiday when your son comes home.

This coming weekend is ‘closed’ where we are asking all boarders to stay in boarding. The aim of this is to help all the boys to enjoy some down time together over a weekend and to strengthen our close community. We are planning a wide variety of recreation activities to complement the sport many boys are playing over the weekend. This closed weekend is an initiative of the Year 12 boarders who are adamant that their friendships in boarding were formed during the less structured time when they were doing fun things together. I’m sure the boys will find enjoyment in the many great things organised for the weekend and the time spent with their mates.
