FARM

With all students returning after the summer holidays and settling into the Farm routine, the Farm has returned to full activity, and it has been a very busy week across all areas.
Sheep
Feeding out has continued this week in the Sheep section. On Thursday, students practised their shearing skills, wool handling, and board duties under the close supervision of Mr Adams. This training is in preparation for the tomorrows Wagin Woolorama Show. Good luck to Mr Adams and his shearing crew. Two weeks ago, ewes were also selected for the upcoming agricultural shows.

Beef
The beef students attended the Gumnut Downs Bull Open Day in Kirup earlier in the week. The last two days of the week were particularly busy as students assisted with administering pre-vaccinations to calves. Our Cert III students were heavily involved, gaining valuable experience in livestock handling and learning how to correctly prepare and administer vaccinations in the cattle yards.

Dairy
The Dairy team has begun drafting and selecting show cows. Thank you to Mr Hall and Ms Quilty for their work in organising this process. Students will now begin training these heifers to show and lead at upcoming agricultural shows. This training will take place during the weekly after‑school Cattle Club run by Ms Quilty.
Alongside this preparation, the Dairy continues its regular operations, including milking, feeding out, and paddock preparation, making for a very busy period.
Equine
Student horses arrived at the College this week and have been settling in well. Riding assessments have now been completed, allowing students to ride their own horses after school hours.
Pigs
The pigs are progressing well, with their average weight currently sitting at 13.8 kg.
Poultry
The chickens are performing well, with a high number of eggs being collected. All eggs are supplied to the College kitchen.
