Student Recess and Lunch Routines
During the last three weeks we have been trialling students eating recess and lunch in the classroom. We have gathered responses to this routine from teachers and parents over the past week and today surveyed the students. Overall, 69% of all students in years 1-6 would like to continue eating in the classrooms. Some of the reasons that were given are -
- it is a cleaner environment
- they can go downstairs and play straight away with their friends rather than everyone finishing at different times
- they don't lose their lunchboxes and drink bottles downstairs
As a school we have noticed a huge reduction in pigeons on the playground, less lost property and more food being eaten (less in the bins).
The tuckshop days, Monday and Thursday, prove to be the most difficult days for staff and students to finish food within the eating time and contain rubbish.
We are therefore proposing the following routine for the rest of the term. We will revise again with everyone then.
Monday and Thursday– Tuckshop Days
Students will eat outside in designated areas supervised by grade teachers. In hot and wet weather students will eat inside.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
Students will stay inside for eating with existing rules
Have a lovely weekend
