Music

It has been a great start to the year in Music.
Firstly, congratulations to our music captains for 2026, Olivia S, Max N, Sienna M, Luca P and Hugh C! These students have shown themselves to responsible leaders, and will provide valuable assistance towards the music program at IPS this year.
Foundation
Foundation, students have been familiarising themselves with the music room, and we have been playing some rhythm, singing and movement games. We have been slowly introducing some instruments for students, and they have been experimenting with playing fast, and slow, as well as loud and soft.
Years 1 and 2
Our Grade 1-2 students have been learning about the instrument families in the orchestra. We have been watching performances of orchestras and playing some games centred around the instrument families. We have also been performing as a class in our very own orchestra!
Students have been taking turns playing the xylophones, marimbas and other instruments. They have also had a go at conducting the orchestra themselves.

In Grades 3-6, we have been learning how to read standard notation on the treble clef. We have been playing some games to help us remember the notes on the staff, and students have been practising writing their own notation, either by finding simple English words or by creating their own melodies. In the coming weeks, we will learn about other forms of musical notation, and students will notate their own compositions for other students in the class to perform.
