Year 3
Religion
Over the past two weeks, in religion, we have been learning more about forgiveness and how it relates to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Students have been engaging in discussion around scripture and the other sacraments. They have enjoyed making models of the sacraments as some of our students also prepare for their first Reconciliation.
Literacy
In literacy, we have been looking at a few texts and ways we can interpret them. Our students have enjoyed looking at two books called Crumbs and Boy, by Phil Cummings and Shane Devries. They have been looking at interpreting and describing characters and settings in stories and their own writing. They have also enjoyed drawing characters and settings from the texts. Over the next lessons our students will be continuing to look at different texts and how to use their understanding of character and setting to create summaries.
Maths:
Over the past two weeks, in numeracy, we have been learning about our new topic of addition and subtraction. Students have continued working in groups with different teachers as they learn about different ways to understand and represent addition and subtraction. Our students have enjoyed learning about partitioning, bridging to 10, and using numberlines as ways to add and subtract. In the next unit the students will be learning about time.
Inquiry
In inquiry, we have been looking at identifying problems and solutions for our ideas for the garden around the school’s new building. Students have been thinking about how we could create a space for local animal habitats or to encourage pollinators. Over the coming lessons they will be creating models of their designs.
Wellbeing Year 3 and Year 4
During Wellbeing Hour we have been unpacking some of our school expectations and listing what these look like in our learning space and on the yard.
- We are aware of the personal space of others
- We allow others to learn.
We have investigated and defined the terms Equality versus Equity using a picture to initiate the discussions.
The students came up with lots of examples to explain the definition of each word.
Equality means everyone is treated fairly. We are all different but have some things that make us the same. We all have the right to be treated with respect.
Equity: Everyone has the same chances but we look at individual needs so they get what they need to succeed.
Equality We all have… | Equity Some of us need… |
|
|
We have also been exploring and naming our emotions and developing an understanding that people won’t always feel the same way about a situation as they do.
Our goals have been to:
- Name comfortable and uncomfortable emotions
- Identify how I feel in different situations
- Explain that I may feel different to someone else in the same situation
Year 4
Religion
In religion the students have been learning about the different parts of the mass and the prayers said during each part. They have learnt about how during the Eucharistic prayer the bread and wine through the consecration becomes the Body and Blood of Christ. The students used a graphic organiser to draw and write about the different parts of the mass
We have now started our Lenten unit where the students are focusing on Passover and The Last Supper. Students this week have learnt about the institution of the last supper and the different parts of the meal that the Jewish people eat.
Literacy
The students have really enjoyed our author’s study of the Fan Brothers, the students have looked at The night gardener, The Antlered Ship and It fell from the sky. All of the texts had amazing illustrations
Maths
Last week we were looking at fractions and learning how to put a fraction in a diagram and putting it on a collection and making mixed numerals and improper fractions. We also have been turning a mixed numeral to an improper fraction. This week we have been learning about how to say time in an analog clock way and digital time. We also learned how to read time on a digital time and on an analog clock.
Inquiry
We have been learning about the local government and what things they look after. We have been looking at Wyndham council and who our Mayor is and what each of the wards in the local council area are. Manor Lakes is in the Quandong and our councilor is Peter Maynard.
We have learned that the council is responsible for rubbish ,pet, libarys, sport facilities
