A Word from Justin

Term 1, Week 6 - Friday 6th March, 2026

Dear Families of OLSC

I hope you are well on the eve of the long weekend.  Have a relaxing day off on Monday and we look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and raring to go on Tuesday!

NAPLAN Begins this weel for Yr 3 and Yr 5 students

For the parents of Year 3 and Year 5 students completing NAPLAN this week please remember that these assesmments are just a snapshot of a student’s learning at a particular moment in time.  They are just one of many ways we monitor progress and support growth. Our focus is always on helping students continue developing their skills, confidence, and understanding throughout the year.  The school mainly uses NAPLAN data to address any trends in data for all students.  Please encourage your students to just do their best and relax.

To the students of OLSC I ask you to keep in mind when you complete your assessments, remember to stay calm and simply try your best.  Assessments are an opportunity to show what you know, so take your time, believe in yourself, and focus on doing the best you can.  We will all be proud of your efforts.

OLSC Sod Turning Ceremony

Last Thursday excitement filled the air as students, staff, Regional Bishop Martin Ashe,

Honourable Member for Werribee John Lister and community leaders gathered on the school grounds of our school for a ceremonial sod-turning ceremony.  This was to officially mark the beginning of construction of a new $3.4 million discovery centre and learning spaces.

The major building project, made possible through a generous government grant, represents one of the most significant developments for the school and promises to transform and enhance learning opportunities for current and future students.

community to take part in the ground breaking.  Student leaders and two of our prep students joined myself, Regional Bishop Martin Ashe and Honourable Local Member for Werribee John Lister, each took turns with golden shovels to officially break ground.

Also present was a representative from the architectural firm Roam Architects, Amanda Robinson, overseeing the design, Denise Mugavin and Paul Donnelly from Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) and representatives from Magellan Projects.

In the last couple of weeks it has been great to see some progress being made on our new building.  Although most of the action and progress is under the ground it is positve to see the project moving forward.

Parents and Friends Night - for the Adults of OLSC

Later this year we have set aside a date for a parent event in the evening.  This will take place on Friday 21st August.  In 2024 we had a trivia night that was well attended by parents, friends and staff although there was not a lot of interest in this event last year and as a result it was cancelled.  If you have an idea or a theme for a adult event to be held at school please email the Parents and Friends Committee on -

pandf@olscwyn.catholic.edu.au

We would ideally like an event that attracts maximum participation!

Thank you Amelia and we all wish you well...

Amelia McKnight has decided that she has had her last winter in Melbourne and she is packing the car to move to the Sunshine Coast.  Amelia began at OLSC in 2024 and has worked across the school in all of the Leanring Centres.  This year Amelia has been working with the Preps and they have benfited from her and care and her sense of humour.  The OLSC staff will miss her dearly.  OLSC's loss is Maroochydore's gain.

Some more staff movement to come next term...a new Deputy Principal is born

It seems that someone has been keeping a watchful eye on John Dini and Bec and decided me too!

Congratulations Beth on her appointment as Deputy Principal at St Alipius in Ballarat.  She will gain 10 hours of her life back from working so close to home.  Beth will begin the new position in Term 2.

 of the Year’ 2025/2026.

There are seven regions across the state. A winner will be selected in each region, and the overall winner, will be selected from the regional winners. The winner of the 2023/2024 Supervisor of the Year is Ian Hook from Maroondah City Council in Ringwood Victoria. School Crossing’s Victoria would like to enlist your help to boost this year’s nominations.

It is our goal to reach as many parents, residents and school staff as possible and by involving them in the nomination process encourage all road users to think about, and reward, the active role the Supervisors play in the safety of their children.

Your support of this program will help ensure your Crossing Supervisor is shown the appreciation they deserve. We would appreciate if you could include the attached advert in your next school newsletter.

Nominations are open now, and close on Thursday 30th April 2026. Go to the School Crossings Victoria website www.schoolcrossingsvictoria.com.au and complete an online nomination.

To vote for Lucy you will need her full name which is Lucy Muraca
