NAPLAN 2026: Encouraging Students to Strive for Success

This week will see year 7 and 9 students participate in the annual National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN).  NAPLAN is one way we gain insight into students’ developing literacy and numeracy skills, and we appreciate the way our learners approach the tests with focus, resilience, and a willingness to do their personal best.

To help the days run smoothly, we ask families to support students in coming well-prepared. This includes arriving with:

  • A fully charged laptop
  • Plug‑in (not Bluetooth) headphones

These small steps make a big difference to students’ confidence and comfort during the assessment sessions.

As a school, we value NAPLAN data as a way to drive continuous improvement in teaching and learning. We analyse NAPLAN data to identify trends, patterns, and areas of improvement. Growth data derived from NAPLAN allows us to assess the effectiveness of our teaching and learning programs and tailor our support to ensure students reach their full potential in literacy and numeracy.

It’s also important to remember that while NAPLAN provides useful information, it is only one measure of learning. It does not capture everything that makes our students remarkable. Many of their strengths fall beyond the scope of these tests—qualities such as creativity, collaboration, sporting skill, leadership, problem solving, empathy, critical thinking, and the diverse talents they bring to our community every day.

We are proud of our students for who they are as learners and as young people. NAPLAN is just one moment in their broader educational journey, and we thank families for supporting a balanced, healthy perspective.
