Principal's Message

Term 1 Week 5 27 February 2026
From the Principal
Hi Everyone,
It is officially the middle of the term - wow!! How on Earth does this happen? There are lots of things always happening in a school, so time does fly!
Thank you to everyone who came to our first P&C Meeting for the year, there were a lot of new faces which was wonderful! I was asked at the meeting about the possibility of our P&C Meetings being run through TEAMs, for all those people who can’t make it in person. I will investigate this and hopefully can get the technology we need to do just that. Our next P&C meeting is on Tuesday 24 March and that will be our AGM (Annual General Meeting), where we thank our current P&C Executive and vote in the executive for this year. Our current team may continue, but we are always needing and wanting volunteers to take on these important positions. The P&C is an incredibly important group in our school and Ironside State School would not be the school it is without the P&C members that we have had across the years. Please join us and help make our school the best it can be.
There were many things to contemplate at the P&C meeting but the one I want you all to think about the most is the P&C INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST!! This year, our wonderful P&C is hoping to hold it on the day that we celebrate Harmony Day, which is the last day of this term, Thursday 2 April. To do this though, the P&C needs a parent or community member to coordinate it and of course, all our families from different countries (we have 49!!) to contact us if they want to set up a stall and represent their country. I am so hoping that we get volunteers for this, so that our International Breakfast can go ahead!
We have a wonderful School Council team, but you can only hold these positions for 2 years. We have 4 people finishing up this year, Mrs Cate Whiting and Mr Sebastian Oei, as well as Ms Sharyn Pinkerton and Ms Susan King. I want to thank all of these people enormously for the contribution they have made to our school through being part of our school council! This means that we are looking for 2 parent representatives and 2 staff representatives. Information will be sent out to all of you, so that you can nominate to be a School Council member, please consider volunteering.
I was away at professional development on Monday, so sadly I did not get to see our P-3 Merit Certificate recipients but a big congratulations to all those children!
I believe there was always a dancing display at assembly, I can’t believe I missed it! This Monday coming is a whole school STAR Assembly, on Monday 2 March.
Our School Captains and Mr Corbett seemed to have a wonderful time at the GRIP Leadership Conference this week - lucky things. Please see their write-up about it, in the Around Ironside section of the newsletter. Thank you to Mr Corbett for organising this valuable experience.
Coming up this week is Life Education, which is an important component of our curriculum. We are grateful to the Life Education team for coming in and teaching our children these vital messages
Well, done to all our children who tried out for the Metropolitan West Swim team, lots of very impressive swimming times that I read. Congratulations to our 2 students who made it through and will be competing at the School State Championships - Brett Algie and Harvey Twinn!! What an achievement! Thank you to Mr Reardon for supporting all our children at the trials. This week coming is rugby league I believe.
Have a safe and wonderful week!
Yours in Education
Angie Kelly
