Stage 1
A message from Stage 1
Welcome to Stage 1! We have had a wonderful start to the year and students are settling beautifully into routines and classroom expectations. It has been lovely to see friendships forming, confidence growing and students taking pride in their learning.
We are looking forward to meeting with families for Parent Teacher Interviews this week. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss how your child has settled into Stage 1, celebrate their strengths and talk about learning goals for the term ahead.
We appreciate your partnership in supporting your child’s learning journey and look forward to working together throughout the year.
Home reading will begin this week.
Home Readers are due back on the following days:
Stage 1I- Thursdays
Stage 1F- Thursday
Stage 1E- Thursday
Stage 1M- Thursday
Stage 1B- Thursday
Stage 1S- Monday
In English, students are learning about different types of verbs. We are identifying verbs in texts and practising using strong, interesting verbs in our own writing.
We are also revising what makes a sentence:
A sentence must make sense
It must have a capital letter at the beginning
It must end with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark
Our InitiaLit groups are well underway, providing explicit small-group instruction in reading, spelling and comprehension.
Mathematics groups began last week. Students are currently learning about whole numbers, focusing on place value, number representation and explaining their thinking.
Students are learning about the five oceans and seven continents while developing mapping skills and using directional language.
In Science, students are investigating how living things grow and change. We have begun growing plants and observing what they need to survive.
In PDHPE, we are focusing on building positive friendships and developing Fundamental Movement Skills through sport and teamwork activities.
We are proud of the positive start Stage 1 has made to 2026 and look forward to a wonderful term ahead.
