Wellbeing and Inclusion Update

Wellbeing Update
The Wellbeing Team has had a busy and productive start to the term, with several important initiatives underway to support our students and staff.
Developing Social Skills Groups:
Kat, in her new role as Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader, will begin facilitating social skills groups from Week 6. These groups will focus on building and maintaining positive friendships, strengthening self-confidence and developing emotional literacy. This is an exciting new chapter for Wollert Primary as we continue to prioritise student wellbeing.
Professional Learning – POD Training:
Callum, along with two of our Educational Support staff members, Ravpreet and Linda, recently attended a two-day POD (Pragmatic Organisational Display) professional learning workshop. This training supports our work with students who experience expressive language difficulties and will enhance the strategies we use in classrooms.
Student Support Group (SSG) Meetings:
Aimee has been busy contacting families to schedule Meet the Teacher/SSG meetings. These conversations are an important opportunity to build strong partnerships with families, discuss students’ strengths and challenges, and begin setting goals for 2026.
Prep Observations:
The Wellbeing Team has commenced observations of our Prep students. These observations help us identify where additional support may be beneficial — both socially and academically — ensuring every child has a strong foundation for their schooling journey.
Staff Wellbeing Professional Learning:
The Wellbeing Team recently led professional learning with our Middle Leaders, focusing on staff wellbeing and strategies to care for both ourselves and our teams. Supporting staff wellbeing ultimately strengthens the learning environment for our students.
Strengthening Our Partnership with Yarra Me School:
We have strengthened our connection with Yarra Me School for Terms 1 and 2. A representative from Yarra Me will be onsite each Wednesday to support some of our students. Our ES staff and teachers will also have opportunities to visit Yarra Me to deepen our understanding and practice. Yarra Me has a strong focus on Social and Emotional Learning, and we value this partnership greatly.
What is Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)?
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which students develop the skills to understand and manage their emotions, build positive relationships, show empathy, make responsible decisions and handle challenges effectively. Strong social and emotional skills support academic learning, improve resilience and help students thrive both at school and beyond.
Our next three week focus is as follows:
