Student Excursions

Melbourne Grand Prix
On Thursday, 13th March, students had the exciting opportunity to visit the Melbourne Grand Prix at Albert Park as part of their Personal Development Skills (PDS) unit. This excursion provided a hands-on experience to support their project on the Grand Prix, giving them valuable insights into the world of motorsport.
Students were able to explore historic F1 cars, gaining an appreciation for how technology and engineering have evolved in the sport. They also had fun testing their reflexes on F1 racing simulators, experiencing firsthand the challenges drivers face on the track.
One of the highlights of the day was watching the Supercar races, where students saw high-speed action up close. Beyond the racing, there were plenty of interactive activities, including displays on the mechanics of F1, sustainability initiatives in motorsport, and behind-the-scenes insights into how teams prepare for race day.
The excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning with real-world experiences. Many walked away inspired by the innovation, teamwork, and precision that go into making the Melbourne Grand Prix a world-class event.
It was an unforgettable day filled with speed, excitement, and valuable learning!

The Big Issue
As part of our upcoming study into the perils of Homelessness for PDS, students took the train to the city to learn about social disadvantage at ‘The Big Issue’ classrooms. Students participated in group activities that simulated the discrimination and unequal opportunities that homeless people face.
They also heard first hand experiences from a man who sold ‘The Big Issue’ magazine. He spoke at length about the challenges he faced and his different living arrangements throughout his life, as well as his ongoing determination to make a better life for himself. Students were also able to take home copies of The Big Issue magazine for free.
