Class Celebrations

Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...

Prep

This term, our Prep students have been learning all about farms as part of our English unit and all about Living Things in our Science units. We’ve explored the animals and crops found on farms, the equipment farmers use, and what all living things need to survive. To bring our learning to life, we went on an exciting Collingwood Children’s Farm excursion! The students had the opportunity to see and interact with animals such as guinea pigs, chickens, and goats. A highlight of the day was planting a snow pea seed to take home and care for. The children enjoyed exploring our farm-themed discovery table, which included natural materials such as cotton, wool, seed pods, and grains. They used magnifying glasses to look closely at each item and learn more about where they come from. It was a fantastic hands-on experience that deepened our understanding of life on a farm. The students had a wonderful time and came away with new knowledge, curiosity, and a greater appreciation for the world of farming.

Year 1

In our Humanities Unit: Back in My Day, we have been comparing the past and the present. We have investigated school life, transport and communication in the past. The Year 1s were amazed to learn about some of the older model phones and birds carrying messages! We had a lot of fun making our own paper cup communication devices and trying to send messages using them.

Year 2

In our Humanities Unit: Roaming in the Rainforest, our Year 2 students have been exploring the features of rainforests. The rainforest that we have been focusing on is the Daintree Rainforest. They have learnt about the layers of a rainforest which are Emergent, Canopy, Understory and Forest Floor. When exploring these layers, they learnt about the animals and plants that live and grow there. To demonstrate their learning, students are creating their own rainforests using a box and paper. They have shown enthusiasm in creating the features and adding the animals to the correct layers of the rainforest. Take a look at our Year 2 students in action.

Year 3

This week, our Year 3 students had some exciting visitors on the learning level. Students met an Australian green tree frog, ring tailed possum, olive python, stumpy tail lizard, a barking owl and a saltwater crocodile. They particularly loved the snake called Tiny, who was far from tiny! Students learned about the life cycles of different animals and how the environment supports them. They had loads of fun!

Year 4

This term, Grade 4 students have been learning about key environmental issues, including poaching, pollution, deforestation, and climate change. We’ve explored the causes and effects of these problems and discussed their impact on the world around us.

Students are now preparing presentations on an issue of their choice, focusing on what can be done to help prevent it. We look forward to sharing our learning with each other in the coming weeks!

Year 5

On Friday, our Year 5 students had an exciting and active day out at the AFL Gala Day held at Fawkner Park in South Yarra. The Gala Day was a fantastic opportunity for students to build on their AFL skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship while enjoying a fun-filled day outdoors. Competing against other schools in friendly matches, our students demonstrated great enthusiasm, effort, and school spirit throughout the day. A big thank you to the parent helpers who supported the event—your involvement and help allowed for the day to occur safely!

Year 6

Our AFL Gala Day was a fantastic experience for all involved. The students showed incredible teamwork, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm from start to finish. Their positive attitude on and off the field made us all proud, as they supported one another, played fairly, and represented our school with pride. It was wonderful to see them having so much fun, building confidence, and forming stronger friendships through sport. Whether they won or lost, every student gave their best effort and enjoyed the day with big smiles and great energy. We couldn’t be prouder of how they conducted themselves!
