Year 11 & 12 Sub School News

Assistant Principal's Report

As a busy Term One draws to a close, it is wonderful to reflect on the incredible achievements, experiences and accomplishments the students have made in the first ten weeks of 2025. It has been great seeing all the senior students using the Study Centre and building their study habits early in the year.

At our recent Athletics Carnival on Thursday, I had the pleasure of speaking with the students about their classes, subjects and year so far as well as seeing the largest participation in the events across the board, and so many senior students attending. For when students weren’t participating, picnic rugs, board games and books were present throughout the supporters, a wholesome day for all.

The Year 12s are excited as the jumpers have arrived, just in time for the cooler months and the Year 11 were a buzz of excitement as they headed out to Hanging Rock on Monday for a wellbeing day, a chance to connect with their cohort and homegroup teachers, along with being active in nature.

After a busy Term One we hope all students have a restful break and look forward to seeing everyone back Term Two.

Year 11

Throughout Term One, Year 11 students have had the opportunity to experience an array of enrichment program activities. Some of these events include the Swimming Sports Day at MSAC in February, a phenomenal celebration of International Women’s Day with three MGC alumnae sharing their post-school pathways with our current students, Athletics Day on Tuesday 25 March and the Wellbeing Day at Hanging Rock on Monday 31 March.

Year 11 students had a wonderful day at Hanging Rock. The weather was a little chilly in the morning, but the day quickly warmed up with radiant sunshine. The favourite activity was by far climbing the rock to reach the summit and looking out for wildlife. Students were thrilled to find a koala aloft an enormous eucalypt tree. After the walk, a lot of students enjoyed kicking the footy, playing finska and bushwalking, enjoying the natural surrounds. Students were well-prepared with plenty of picnic blankets, abundant food and games. It was so pleasing to see students participating in fun activities, reconnecting with their peers in a relaxed environment, boosting their wellbeing. Overall, students strengthened their connections with their peers and teachers.

Below are some reflections by our Year 11 students of Term 1 highlights:

It’s been a jam-packed term! One of the perks of Year 11 is being able to use the study centre. Phoebe Tran

The first term of Year 11 has been a mix of emotions. It’s been rewarding to be in classes we chose ourselves and to gradually learn the study habits that work best for us as we prepare for Year 12. There has been a noticeable shift in motivation and class maturity, as we feel more driven to perform well.

Year 11 is another step in our journey of learning and growing alongside the same peers we've been with since Year 7. As we continue to strengthen friendships that will last throughout school and beyond, we’re excited to keep challenging ourselves, learning, and having fun in the terms ahead. Lulu Smith

Year 12

It has been a massive and exciting term for our Year 12 students. The huge news is that Year 12 jumpers have arrived! They look fantastic! We are so thrilled to see them being worn with pride alongside their academic uniform. It was great to see Year 12’s enjoy their final swimming and athletics carnivals and the incredible effort they put into their amazing costumes.

It has been wonderful to see Year 12 students embrace the challenge of Year 12 with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and seek support from their teachers and peers in all their classes. Keep up the great work in Term Two Year 12’s!

Now is the time to rest, recharge and ensure you are ready for your biggest term yet. The Year 12 team wishes all students a joyful and safe holiday break.
